The Godolphin stable has announced the retirement to stud of this year’s Dubai
World Cup winner Street Cry.
The four-year-old, a contender for the US Horse of the Year title, has had his
career cut short after suffering from an inflammation of his right-fore ankle.
The son of Machiavellian was the early favourite for the Breeders' Cup Classic
at Arlington Park on October 26.
Godolphin announced that Street Cry will stand at Sheikh Mohammed's Jonabell
Farm in Kentucky for the 2003 season.
Street Cry recorded three victories this year including the G1 World Cup at Nad
Al Sheba and the G1 Stephen Foster Handicap at Churchill Downs in June.
His trainer Saeed bin Suroor had been confident about the colt's chances in the
Breeders' Cup Classic.
"I think he would have won the Classic,” Suroor said.
"It is very sad that the injury means he cannot run in that great race.
“It always seems to happen with the good ones. Street Cry was the best of the
Godolphin horses this year.
"I think he will be a great sire as he is from a very good family and will
prove popular with American breeders.”
Street Cry only finished out of the first two placings once in 12 starts. He won
five races and $US5,150,983 prizemoney
Jonabell Farm was purchased from the Bell family by Sheikh Mohammed in 2001 and
currently stands three stallions, Cherokee Run, Holy Bull and Old Trieste.
The four-year-old colt has an outstanding pedigree, being by Machiavellian out
of the Irish Oaks winner Helen Street.
