It was a red-letter day for Arrowfield Stud’s Fuji Kiseki at Japan’s Niigata racecourse on Sunday. Half an hour after his 4yo daughter Gun And Rose was a 2-length winner of an added stakes race over 1400m, 2yo filly Wana ran a course record 1:33.80 to claim the A$491,000 Group 3 Niigata Nisai Stakes at just her second race start.

Wana is a daughter of the Theatrical mare Meronpan a half-sister to Blandford Stakes (G2) and Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes (G2) winner Kris Kringle.

Caerleon filly My First Star, a half sister to Meronpan, found her way to Australia. She is the dam of the flying Rory’s Jester filly Isca, voted Champion Sprinter in Australia for the 1998/99 season with wins in the VRC Newmarket Handicap (G1) and VRC Lightning Stakes (G1). Isca was the third stakes winner for My First Star. She was preceded by VATC Debutante Stakes (LR) winner Slapstick (Rory’s Jester) and AJC Adrian Knox Stakes (G3) winner Star Alight (Kenmare).

Wana will most likely be aimed at the Himba Stakes, the only G1 race for two-year old fillies in Japan.

Fuji Kiseki will serve his 5th book of mares at Arrowfield Stud this spring. Currently the 5th leading sire in Japan, Fuji Kiseki stands for a fee of $24,750 (inc GST).
