When Dane River won the Seymour Cup on Sunday he became the 200th stakes winner for the extraordinary Danehill. He becomes only the second stallion in history to reach that goal following his Coolmore stablemate Saddler’s Wells.

The 16-year old son of Danzig is a sad omission from the Coolmore Australia roster this year. However he has left a magnificent legacy, particularly through his sire sons. According to the Thoroughbred Times Danehill has 908 individual winners from 1,315 starters and 1,810 foals in his first ten crops, which include 125 group/graded stakes winners, with progeny earnings of US$126,776,730.

Danehill has an outstanding line up of contenders on Breeders Cup day at Arlington Park on Saturday including 7-time Group 1 winner Rock Of Gibraltar, last years Breeders Cup Fillies and mares Turf winner Banks Hill and Keeneland Mile Turf Stakes winner Landseer.

Last Sunday Danehill’s two-year old son Spartacus won his second Group 1 race when successful in the Gran Criterium at San Siro while in Australia Danehill has a live Victorian Derby hope in the Gai Waterhouse-trained colt Platinum Scissors a strong winner of the Group 2 Norman Robinson Stakes at Caulfield last Saturday.
