Rubiton’s Star Continues To Shine
Quality sprinter RUBITANO(1999 Premier $95,000) returned to his brilliant best, with a dominant win in the MRC National Telecoms Group Sprint Gr 2. Lugging 58 kg and sitting three-wide throughout from a wide gate, he cruised away from his rivals in a sustained display of speed.

"When things go right he is a very powerful animal and he was always going to make his own luck from that alley," said trainer, Brian Mayfield-Smith.

Mayfield-Smith has done a terrific job to keep the five year old at his peak, given the amount of racing he's had this season, seven starts since mid July when he kicked off with a win in the MRC Sir John Monash Stakes L.

The win is yet another highlight for grand sire Rubiton who has enjoyed an epic renaissance this spring, through the deeds of Fields of Omagh, Innovation Girl and of course Rubitano.

The Tony McEvoy trained FIELDS OF OMAGH (1999 Premier $50,000) ran the race of his life in the MRC Caulfield Cup Gr 1, going down by a half neck to the champion Northerly. It's a harsh reality in life that sometimes your very best is not quite good enough.

To bump into a Cox Plate winner of Northerly's ability running in a Caulfield Cup, is a sizable stumbling block and in nearly any other year we would surely be hailing Fields of Omagh as the Caulfield Cup hero.

Rubiton continues to feature at the business end of the leading sires list for this season, holding down third position behind Northerly's sire Serheed (USA) and the indomitable Danehill (USA).

We anticipate this stellar burst of racetrack success will follow his progeny into the sales ring next year and with some 20 Rubiton youngsters entered for the 2003 Premier Yearling Sale, he is sure to be a major player in proceedings. Highlights among the Rubiton draft include a full brother to Rubitano, and a half-brother to mighty speedster Brawny Spirit.

Randwick Stakes Double
Inglis Graduates dominated City Tattersalls Day at Randwick on Saturday with BARAWIN (2000 Easter $60,000) and NATIONAL SAINT (1999 Breeze Up $60,000) taking out the featured events.

Former stakes-winning two year old BARAWIN has blossomed in her new career as a stayer. The Bob Thomsen trained four year old mare took out the City Tatt's Club Cup L, aided by a clever ride from Robbie Brewer that enabled her to hold out the short priced favourite RESPECT (2000 Easter $120,000) in a driving finish.

The win continued the recent great run enjoyed by Widden Stud based stallions, with former shuttle sire Barathea (IRE) adding to the success achieved by Helissio (FR) and Filante (NZ).

Barawin was bred at Ross Cribb's Jay-R Stud at Tahmoor and is a daughter of the stakes-placed Handy Proverb mare Portview, a grand-daughter of outstanding filly La Caissiere. She's been a lucrative purchase for her owners, winning $231,950 to date and gaining plenty of valuable Black Type that will ensure a commercial stud career.

Randwick trainer Sterling Smith must wish he had a stable full of horses like NATIONAL SAINT, a determined winner of the City Tatt's Lightning Stakes L, from the strong finishing SHAGS (2000 Classic $75,000).

Selected and purchased for just $60,000 by Sterling Smith at the 1999 Australian Breeze Up Sale, the tough little stallion by St Covet has been a prolific winner for the stable, scoring eight times for prizemoney of $215,450.

Helenus Relation Scores at Randwick
The Gai Waterhouse trained three year old NOBLE SPUR (2001 Easter $130,000) may be a long way from winning a Caulfield Guineas, but he does boast a close relationship to a horse who has.

Randwick winner Noble Spur, is the first foal of Tender Saint (USA), an unraced half-sister to ill-fated matron Worldwide Elsie (USA), the dam of Helenus.

The sad demise of Worldwide Elsie (USA) has been well covered in the wake of Helenus' rise to fame and it's pleasing to see another fresh branch of this great international classic family in Australia.

Tender Saint (USA) resides at Wakefield Stud and her yearling filly by Hurricane Sky has been entered for the 2003 Classic Yearling Sale.
