 35. Big Weekend For Sons Of Kenmare

16/10/2002

The ill-fated Kenmare stallion Metal Storm sired three winners on the Belmont card on Saturday while the consistent Tribu added another winner to give sons Kenmare half the program.

KENMARE
To emphasize what an enormous loss the Metal Storm was to the West Australian thoroughbred industry his 3yo son Stormy’s Son came within a head of adding the $75,000 Bolle Classic at Caulfield on Saturday.

Rangal Park Stud’s Keltrice is having an exceptional start to the season. His two-year old daughter On Focus (Keltrice-Candid Camera by Victory Prince) lowered the boom on the odds on favourite Son Of Spartacus in the Listed Independent Fulham Park Plate over 900m at Victoria Park on Saturday.
A bargain $8000 purchase out of the Torryburn consignment at the 2002 Magic Millions Adelaide Sale, On Focus gave South Australian trainer Craig Curtis his first city win. “She has come on in leaps and bounds, said the excited trainer. “She ate up well on Sunday and recovered quickly from the run”. Curtis is yet to decide whether On Focus has earned a break or whether he should take her to Melbourne for some of the rich two-year old races in November.
On Focus became the 20th individual winner of the season for her consistent and versatile sire Keltrice.

Kenmare’s high-class French-based son Highest Honor achieved International Group 1 glory when his three-year old daughter Dedication won the rich Prix de Foret at Longchamp on Sunday. Previously Dedication (Highest Honor-Dissertation by Sillery) had captured the Listed Prix Amandine before finishing runner-up in the Prix d'Astarte (G2) and Prix Quincey (G3).. She was an unlucky sixth in the listed Prix du Pin at her last start, but this time given an inspired ride by Olivier Doleuze accelerated away from Medecis (Machiavellian-Renashaan by Darshaan) and Cayoke (Always Fair-Sarah Annita by Pharly). Owner/breeder Alec Head declared that Dedication will do her future racing in America and will be transferred to Christophe Clement in New York.
