 31. First Foals Offered by the "Iron Horse"

15/10/2002

A half sister by Giant’s Causeway to European champion and dual Derby winner Galileo will be offered at the annual Tattersalls December Foal Sale in England.

The regally bred foal is out of European champion and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Urban Sea.

Urban Sea’s first four foals of racing age have included not only Galileo but also the stakes winning filly Melikah, placed in the English and Irish Oaks, G3 winner Urban Ocean and the G1 placed Black Sma Bellamy

Her granddam Allegretta is also the dam of 2000 Guineas winner King’s Best and G3 winner Allez Les Trois, dam of last year's G1 Prix du Jockey Club winner Anabaa Blue.

A yearling filly out of Urban Sea, by champion sire Sadler’s Wells, was the highlight of last year's Tattersalls December Foal Sale when she brought a new European record price for a filly foal of 1.1 million guineas.

The filly foal in the Tattersall’s catalogue is one of 12 foals from the eagerly awaited first crop of 'Iron Horse' Giant’s Causeway.

The catalogue numbers 995 foals and will feature the only foal by the late champion Sunday Silence to be sold outside Japan this year.
Other first crop shuttle sires with foals catalogued include King’s Best and Montjeu.
