Dehere has firmly installed himself as one of the most successful and important
proven stallions standing in Australia this season. His flag-bearer has been his
outstanding son Defier who this season has lowered the colours of both Lonhro
and Sunline stamping himself as the best weight-for-age performer in the
country. , However, Defier is not alone in building his sire’s stature. The
Peter Moody trained Ain’t Here ran a sound second in the Gr.2 Bill Stutt
Stakes at Moonee Valley last Friday and his talented daughter Special Grange
hinted it won’t be long before she earns black-type with a hollow victory at
Flemington on Sunday.
Dehere has also sired a number of outstanding gallopers in the northern
hemisphere this year. He is currently sixth leading sire in the USA and a top
ten finish appears assured with his outstanding daughter Take Charge Lady
winning the Gr.1 Spinster Stakes at Keeneland on Sunday, Easyfromthegitgo
running second in the Gr.3 Indiana Derby and Finality winning the Gr.2 Jamaica
Handicap late last month. Take Charge Lady is now unbeaten at Keeneland having
won all her four starts at the track including the course’s three premier
races for fillies; Gr.1 Ashland, Gr.1 Alcibades and now the Gr.1 Spinster
Stakes, a treble only two other fillies have ever won. She will now go to the
Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Arlington Park on October 26.
In Hong Kong, Dehere’s son Oriental Pearl created such an impression in
winning his first start by three lengths that locals have touted him to be one
of the most exciting gallopers seen in that country for a long time. Oriental
Pearl is trained by John Size who trained a treble at the meeting including
Hurricane Sky’s talented son Grand Delight, an easy winner of the HK$1.6
million National Day Handicap.
Flying Spur has begun the new racing season in scintillating fashion with his
2yo daughter Spurcent easily winning the Listed Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick last
weekend. Like fellow Arrowfield stallions Dehere, Hurricane Sky and Fuji Kiseki,
Flying Spur is making a habit of siring winners in both hemisphere’s and in
addition to his local winners over the weekend, he also sired winners in
Ireland, Italy and Singapore.
