 17. South Aussie Breds Shine at Flemington

07/10/2002

South Australian bred gallopers had a day out to remember at Flemington on Saturday when they scooped three of the feature races on the card.

Cosmic Strike, Freegold and Hydrometer all displayed they were set to feature in more spring features when they scored impressive wins at Australia’s most famous racetrack.

Cosmic Strike, who is trained by former Adelaide based horseman Dan O’Sullivan, burst into calculation for the Group One Salinger Stakes when she downed a hot field in the Group Two Gilgai Stakes.

Earlier in the afternoon the Leon Macdonald trained Hydrometer sent his name into the mix for the Group One Victoria Derby by winning the Concept Sports Stakes.

And in between them the well bred stayer Freegold proved he had too much dash when he scored a fighting win in the Banjo Patterson.

Former SA Horse of the Month Berezny went close to making it four when he ran an eye catching second during the afternoon.
