Prado guided the outstanding Dehere filly Take Charge Lady to a 2 ˝-length win
in the Grade 1 Spinster Stakes at Keeneland on Sunday, where she entered an
exclusive club that previously consisted of only the legendry Doubledogdare and
Optimistic Gal as only winners of Keeneland’s premier races for fillies—the
Spinster, Ashland and Alcibiades Stakes.

“She’s a great filly,” said an excited Prado who had also taken the other
Grade 1 event on the card, the Keeneland Turf Mile on the Danehill colt Landseer.
“She gave me everything she had. I hit her with the whip just to keep her
focused. When she came up the rail, I was counting my money.”
Unbeaten in four runs at Keeneland, Take Charge Lady has started 12 times for 8
wins and 3 seconds for eanings of $1,586,351. The three-year olds previous wins
this year include an 8 1/2-length win in the Silverbulletday Stakes (G3), Fair
Grounds Oaks (G2), Ashland Stakes (G1) and Dogwood Stakes (G3).
A $175,000 purchase at the 2000 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July Yearling Sale Take
Charge Lady is out of the unraced Rubiano mare Felicita, who is also the dam of
stakes winner Eventail (Lear Fan).
The win continues a remarkable run of success for Dehere (Deputy Minister-Sister
Dot by Secretariat) since Arrowfield stud repatriated the former champion
two-year old to Australia this year.
His flagbearer in Australia this season has been the remarkable Defier.
Dehere’s three-year old son Ain’t Here indicated better things are in store
with a fine second to the top-class Helenus in the Bill Stutt Stakes (G2) at
Moonee Valley on Friday night while the promising four-year mare Special Grange
ran out an easy winner at Flemington today.
