The Gai Waterhouse trained Assertive Lad has been retired from racing.

The five year-old gelding pulled up sore after finishing at the tail of the field in the Group One Cox Plate last Saturday and the decision was made late this week.
Among Assertive Lad's eight wins for over $3.3M were the:

2000 AJC Champagne Stakes G1 1600m
2000 AJC Sires' Produce Stakes G1 1400m
2001 AJC Doncaster Handicap G1 1600m
2001 AJC Royal Sovereign Stakes G2 1200m
2002 MRC Melbourne Racing Club Stakes G3 1400m
