Multiple
Group One winner Universal Prince will begin his stud career in NSW.
The four-time G1-winning son of Scenic will stand at Dr Jack and Sue
Woolridge’s Inverness Stud in the southern highlands near Moss Vale.
Owner Terry Hogan had several stud offers to consider but agreed to stand the
five-year-old at Inverness in a deal brokered by Farrington Bloodstock.
Trainer Bede Murray announced that Universal Prince had run his last race after
he failed in the Caulfield Cup on October 19.
He retires with earnings of more than $3 million amassed from seven wins and 10
placings in 30 starts over distances from 1200m to 2400m.
His outstanding wins included the G AJC Derby, G1 Spring Champion Stakes, G1
Canterbury Guineas, G1 Ranvet Stakes, G3 Newcastle Spring Stakes and G1 placings
in the Victoria Derby, The BMW, Underwood Stakes and Chipping Norton Stakes.
His outstanding three-year-old season saw him rated equal with Assertive Lad at
the head of the 2000/2001 Australia and New Zealand Classifications for that age
group.
Inverness Stud also owns Sunline’s dam Songline and it is possible Universal
prince will cover that mare in his first season in 2003.
Universal Prince is by one of Sadler’s Wells best southern hemisphere sons
Scenic from Biscay Bird, a half sister to one of Scenic's best performed sons
Blevic.
Blevic was a winner of eight races including the G1 VRC Sires Produce Stakes and
G1 Victoria Derby.
Universal Prince is a descendant of the remarkable mare Aurora - a classic
placed winner and dam of nine winners including the champion stayers and sires
Alycidon, Agricola, Acropolis and Borealis.
Such fine racehorses as Belele, Brave Show, Fairway, Grout, Horlicks, Little
Jamie, Popsy and Travel Light - all G1 winners – are line-bred to Aurora.
Universal Prince will stand at Inverness Stud with Danehill’s full brother
Nuclear Freeze. His service fee will be announced at a later date.
