Champion
sire Danehill has joined the great Sadler’s Wells as only the second stallion
to produce 200 stakeswinners.
Fittingly the milesone for Danehill came in Australia, the country that laid the
foundation for his worldwide success, when Dane River won the Seymour Cup on
October 20.
Danehill, now 16, ended his dual hemipshgere career this year when he did not
return to Australia from Ireland for the first time since 1990.
The four-time Australian champion, who also won the French sires title in 2001,
has now produced 908 individual winners from 1,315 starters from his first ten
crops, including 125 Group winners.
His progeny have now earned in excess of $US126 million.
His northern hemisphere champions include champion French mare Banks Hill and
two-time Hong Kong Horse of the Year Fairy King Prawn, Mozart, Desert King,
Dansili and Aquarelliste.
His long list of Australian stars include Dane Ripper, Danewin, Danzero, Merlene,
Flying Spur, Catbird, Redoute’s Choice, Arena, Magical Miss, Ha Ha and
Nothin’ Leica Dane.
Such is the rate of Danehill’s success that he has produced 50 stakeswinners
in the last 18 months.
The Danzig stallion now boasts 48 Group One winners, the latest coming only last
Sunday in Italy his two-year-old Spartacus won the Gran Criterium at San Siro in
Milan.
It was the second G1 victory for Spartacus after his previous success in the
Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh.
