By: Mark Smith Three of last years Coolmore lineup are not returning to Australia this year while three new stallions will be arriving along with the resurrected Royal Academy. Out go Hennessy, Honour And Glory and Woodman and in their place comes Galileo (Sadler’s Wells), Mozart (Danehill) and Mull Of Kintyre (Danzig). Coolmore seem to be placing a greater emphasis on successful European turf pedigrees at the expense of pedigrees proven on the dirt tracks of America. An interesting newcomer is Mull Of Kintyre a son of Danzig from a ˝ sister Champion Sire Broad Brush. A $1,000,000 Keeneland July Select Sale yearling, Mull Of Kintyre won the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes at York by 3-lengths and finished an excellent fourth to Anees in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) at Gulfstream Park.. Several stallions have had significant reductions in service fee. Desert King drops from $22,000 to $13,750, King Of Kings from $22,000 to 16,500, High Yield from $27,500 to $22,000, Peintre Celebre from $44,000 to $35,750, while reigning champion stallion in the U.S. Thunder Gulch sees his fee decline from $33,000 to $27,500. No stallion that stood at Coolmore last year has had a service fee increase although Danehill whose service fee is listed as private is reported to be bringing in a record breaking $250,000. It is interesting to note the pricing of Galileo. At $55,000 the English and Irish Derby winner is exactly half the fee of Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus. A reflection of the enormous impact Danehill has had in Australia is reflected in Mozart’s fee of $49,500. While there is only $5,500 difference in Mozart’s fee compared to Galileo, in Ireland the son of Danehill stands for a fee of 30,000 Irish pounds, some 20,000 Irish pounds less than Galileo. The 2002 Coolmore Australia Roster is; DANEHILL (USA) Bay 1986 (Danzig - Razyana) 2002 fee: Private. DESERT KING (IRE) Bay 1994 (Danehill - Sabaah) 2002 fee: $13,750 (incl.GST).
