 56. Singo Hatches Another Potential Topliner - In June Sale

14/05/2002

MM News For 13 May 2002

Debutante Chickens showed all the attributes of a potential topliner when she smashed the class record in winning the Leger Hcp (1100m) at Randwick on Saturday. Magic Millions will be offering a half brother to Chickens in its Winter Carnival Yearling Sale on 9 June.

With John Singleton as owner, Gai Waterhouse as trainer and the blood of super stallion Danehill pumping through her veins, the intriguingly-named Chickens has plenty in her favour to be something special.

She led throughout today to win by two lengths and recorded a time of 1m:03.83s to break Excellerator's class record by almost a second.

"She's a real professional and has a lovely turn of foot," jockey Danny Beasley said.

Stable spokesman Steve Brem explained that early shinsoreness put paid to Golden Slipper aspirations with the two-year-old.

"She had some bad shin soreness early on," Brem said.

It is now likely Chickens will be taken to Brisbane for the Group One $300,000 Sire's Produce (1400m) on June 1.

"I haven't received a call from Gai yet," Brem said of Waterhouse who was at the Gold Coast.

"We'll win the Sires' Produce and then the Cox Plate," the typically confident Singleton remarked.

The impeccably-bred filly is out of American mare C'yaontheotherside - hence Chickens' name - and is a three-quarter sister to multiple Group One winner Danendri.
C'yaontheotherside is a daughter of Group One winner Copperama.

Chickens started second favourite after winning a barrier trial by five lengths and never seemed in danger of defeat, beating the favourite Force Zulu with Russell On 1-1/4 lengths back in third place.

Lot 47 in the Winter Carnival Yearling Sale is a Bay Colt by King Of Kings (IRE) out of C'yaontheotherside.
