 54. Leading Sires Represented at Scone

14/05/2002

Scone might be a yearling sale in the country, but there's nothing country about some of these yearlings who boast quality pedigrees and bloodlines seen in action throughout the world.

Danehill's swift grey son Lion Hunter, is king of the first season sires, with 9 individual winners including the freakish performer Lovely Jubbly. His five yearlings for Scone are sure to be among the most admired youngsters on the grounds.

Japanese sensation, Sunday Silence, was all the rage at Easter this year and Scone buyers will have the opportunity to bid on two well related yearlings by his sons.

Highly promising sire Fuji Kiseki (Jap) is currently third on the leading first season sire list, with 7 individual winners highlighted by stakes-winners Fuji Dancer and Flashed. He has just one yearling in the sale, a filly from the good Snippets racemare Bruschetta (Lot 24), a winner of four metropolitan races.

Champion Japanese two year old Bubble Gum Fellow (Jap) also has one yearling, a colt from the grand producer Caitie's Kingdom (Lot 25), dam of Group One winner Prince Salieri and stakes-winners Cate's Mill, Rosebery and Marsking.

Strategic has earned high praise for his efforts at stud, with 31 individual winners and the Group One winner Mistegic elevating him to within a whisker of Carnegie (IRE) in the leading second crop sires list. Lot 35, a beautiful chestnut filly from the Quest for Fame (GB) mare Consuelo, is his only yearling for Scone.

Another young stallion to make his mark this season is Secret Savings (USA), the sire of outstanding performer Dash for Cash, winner of the VRC Australian Guineas Gr 1. His six Scone yearlings will represent good value when you consider that his service fee for the coming season has been increased to $27,500.

Like Strategic and Secret Savings (USA), Anabaa (USA) is another promising sire who's oldest progeny are three year olds. He's had a very good season, with classy runners such as Yell, Heritiere and Queensland Oaks fancy Devilina, in addition to a slew of winners in Hong Kong where his stock are becoming the height of fashion. He has five yearlings on offer at Scone including Lot 147, a brother to stakes-winner King of Prussia.

Experienced shuttler Royal Academy (USA) is enjoying a resurgence in popularity, ignited by star runners like Bel Esprit. He sits in fifth position on the leading sires list and his lone offering at Scone is a bay colt from the Pleasant Colony mare Colonial Dancer (USA).

Victorian based sire Rubiton has swept through one of his best seasons to date, producing stakes horses like Fields of Omagh, Innovation Girl, Prince Rubiton and Rubitano, winner of the VRC Newmarket Handicap Gr 1. Scone buyers would do well to consider his two Scone yearlings, a colt and a filly.

Many of Danehill's most popular sire sons are represented including: Danehill Dancer (IRE), Danewin, Danzero, Desert King (IRE), Flying Spur, Nothin' Leica Dane, Shovhog, etc. Buyers will have no shortage of opportunity to tap into Australia's most successful sireline.
