 31. Dam sold for $750,000 at Inglis Sale

07/05/2002

Tara Madgwick from Inglis's reports internationally proven broodmare Balletomane (USA) (Lot 376) was the subject of much interest before today's sale and her arrival in the ring sparked an opening bid of $600,000.
The dam of Breeders' Cup winner Silic went on to make $750,000, going to Victorian bloodstock agent Rob Roulston, acting for a syndicate of breeders.
"She'll be going back to the Northern Hemisphere," said Roulston. "She'll have the Fusaichi Pegasus here, then head back to Europe."
A Northern Hemisphere mate for the mare is yet to be decided, but given her pedigree the sky is the limit.
Fly the Flag (Lot 841), a winning sister to Melbourne Cup winner Brew, from champion racemare Horlicks, took the fancy of Baramul Stud owner Gerry Harvey.
He forked out $750,000 to secure the blue blooded mare who boasts a positive test to champion sire Danehill (USA), fresh from the Northern Hemisphere Group One triumph of his son Rock of Gibraltar.
Fly the Flag was lucky to be in the sale, having missed the original entries and being included in the supplementary catalogue at the last minute.
