The Australian Broodmare Sale continues at Newmarket this morning, as the biggest bloodstock sale in the Southern Hemisphere moves into it's second day.
The top end of the market proved exceptionally strong yesterday, with 23 mares fetching over $100,000.
A dispersal of five mares from Bill Duthy's Sharondon Park Stud in South Australia were much in demand, generating $1.14 million.
Highest priced among them was the proven producer VERONICAL (USA), won by prominent bloodstock agent John Freyer with a bid of $500,000.
Veronical (USA) is the dam of stakes-winner Lan Kwai Fong, who was narrowly beaten in the VRC Oaks Gr 1 and is currently residing in America.
She's by champion sire Fappiano, from the family of leading American sire Broad Brush and Group Two winner Mull of Kintyre (USA) who will be joining the Coolmore stud roster in Australia this spring. Veronical (USA) is in foal to champion racehorse and successful sire Octagonal (NZ).
Another of the Sharondon Park mares, UNBRIDLED VICTORY (USA), was the subject of intense competition, with the might of Swettenham Stud eventually winning out to the tune of $360,000.
The winning daughter of Kentucky Derby winner Unbridled is a three-quarter sister to Group Two winner Fappaburst and was offered in foal to Grand Lodge (USA).
Outstanding racemare DYNAMIC LOVE danced and jigged around the ring as though looking for her jockey and the clerk of the course pony.
A Group Two winner of more than $700,000, she was offered as a racing and breeding proposition. John Foote Bloodstock purchased the daughter of Brave Warrior for $450,000.
Windsor Park Stud jumped on a rare opportunity to secure a daughter of legendary broodmare Eight Carat (GB), going to $380,000 to secure the Sir Tristram (IRE) mare LA BRILLANTE.
A beautiful dark brown mare, with the clear bold eye that is the hallmark of the Eight Carat breed, she was offered with a positive test to Thunder Gulch (USA), sire of Australasian Oaks winner Tully Thunder.
