 17. Lindsay Park Classic Collection Fulfils All Expectations

01/05/2002

The Lindsay Park Classic Collection has been a resounding success with 71 weanlings and 132 broodmares sold for a total sale aggregate of $7,815,250.

Industry stalwarts claim, it is quite likely this has been the greatest on stud dispersal sale of all time in Australia with its gross sales close to eight million dollars. It is believed the sale of Biscay Bird at $825,000 is the highest price ever paid in South Australia for a thoroughbred.

David Hayes, the proprietor of Lindsay Park Stud, was ecstatic with the results of the sale "I was thrilled with the sale and the way in which it was conducted by Magic Millions and Lindsay Park Stud staff", he said.

"The lower end of the market was weak, but I am sure history will show that there were certainly some very good buys, the middle market was acceptable"

"The results from the top end of the market were very good, all our top quality mares sold very well", David Hayes said.

The average for the weanling section of the catalogue was $29,243. Of the 79 catalogued, 71 lots sold. The average for the broodmare section of the catalogue was $43,477. 137 mares were catalogued and 132 sold.

John Singleton of Strawberry Hill Stud in the Hunter Valley, NSW ended the sale as the most prominent purchaser outlaying $825,000 for the feature Lot of the sale, Biscay Bird. Biscay Bird is the dam of current outstanding galloper Universal Prince, and is in foal to outstanding sire Danehill.

Other significant purchasers of the sale included Ian Barton of Kanowna Stud SA who outlaid $340,000 for Stakes-winning mare Visual Displays in foal to Agnes World, and $110,000 for the Salieri mare Barossa Valley in foal to Rory's Jester. Ron and Debbie Gilbert of Highgrove Stud on the Darling Downs in Queensland paid $200,000 for the young Dehere mare Angelic Smile with a positive test to Fusaichi Pegasus.

David Chester, Managing Director of Magic Millions Sales Pty Limited commented "The results of the sale have been outstanding for the industry in South Australia".

"Lindsay Park is one of Australia's truly internationally recognised studs, and this was evident in the support for the sale from the international buying bench, and buyers attended the sale from all mainland states in Australia", he said.

Mr Chester said "The quality and the presentation of the horses was outstanding, the success of this sale has a lot to do with the fact that these families have underpinned 62 trainers premierships, and are quality foundation stock".
