Saturday 9th and Monday 11th of March 2002
Black type racing was conducted in Melbourne on Monday, with the highlight being the Group 1 Australian Cup. Sydney and Brisbane held their respective meetings at Canterbury Park and Eagle Farm.
In Melbourne Monday 11th of March 2002 Flemington was the venue for a nine event card on Monday which featured the Group 1 Australian Cup. TBNSW members recorded 2 second placings on the day.
It was a second placing for TBNSW members in Race 1 the Labour Day Handicap when McBeal (Jeune(GB)-Freebird) scored from La Zoffany (Zoffany(USA)-Sharp in Slippery) bred by Mr C D and Mrs J J Ellis with Locquacious (Royal Academy(USA)-Dateless(NZ)) third.
The Group 3 TBV Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes run over 1200 metres for Two-year-old fillies was Race 3 on the program. Dama De Nouche (Snippets-Daisy Bates(IRE)) was successful from Dubai Ice (Danehill(USA)-Skating) with Centella (Spectrum(IRE)-Kashya(NZ)) in third place.
TBNSW members recorded a second placing in Race 5 on the program the Schweppes 1100 a listed race over 1100 metres. Taimana(NZ)(Woodman(USA)-Abbaye) won from Donna Natalia (Anabaa(USA)-Marskin) bred by Vinery Australia with Raja Lane (Devaraja(NZ)-English Lane) in third position.
The Group 1 Australian Cup was Race 6 on the program run over 2000 metres. In a close finish Western Australian gallopers provided the quinella when Old Comrade (Old Spice-Belgravia) saluted from Northerly (Serheed(USA)-North Bell) with Rain Gauge (Kenvain-Turn to Rain) third.
Race 8 on the program was the Group 3 Tooheys New Plate run over 1400 metres. Shelbourne Lass (Brocco(USA)-Catherine Mary(NZ) was too good for Ramano’s Star (Bletchencore-Romano’s Magic) wityh Spurn (Flying Spur-Espiare(NZ)) in third position.
In Sydney Monday 11th of March 2002 The Sydney meeting was held at Canterbury Park with eight events on the program. TBNSW members recorded 2 winners, 2 second placings and 2 third placings on the day.
TBNSW members opened their account with a winner in Race 3 the De Bortoli Wines Gulf Station Handicap. Covina (Covetous-Harriet Emma) bred by Macquarie Stud was successful from A Deena (Son of Gibloran-Amanda’s Pet) with Modern(NZ)(Pompeii Court(USA)-Alvarensky(NZ)) third.
It was second and third placings for TBNSW members in Race 4 the Pat Studders 20 Years Superfecta when Plain Crazy (Bite the Bullet(USA)-What Price Glory) won from Snaatic (Snaadee(USA)-Gay Georgina) bred by Honey Boy Pty Limited with Viejo (El Moxie(USA)-Jowharah(IRE)) bred by Mrs R E Scott in third place.
A second placing for TBNSW members in Race 5 the De Bortoli Wines Sacred Hill Handicap. Black Ale (Integra-Couche) won from Alqsar (Quest for Fame(GB)-Spanish Mix) bred by Mrs M King with State Senator(NZ)(College Chapel(GB)-Show Belle(NZ)) third.
A third placing for TBNSW members in Race 7 the Deen and Emeri De Bortoli Handicap when Colin the Brave (Splendent(USA)-Toot-Toot-Tootsie) scored from Au Naturale (Naturalism(NZ)-Hunof) with Outgate (Lake Coniston(IRE)-Overflow) bred by Woodlands Stud in third place.
TBNSW members finished the day with a winner in Race 8 the De Bortoli Wines Yarra Valley Superfecta when Lili Marlene saluted. Lili Marlene (Kaaptive Edition(NZ)-Universal Lady) bred by Mr J R and Mrs P D Cribb was too good for Lady Viola(NZ)(Zabeel(NZ)-Scarlet Robin(NZ)) with Ripon By(NZ)(Beldale Lear(USA)-Dawn Fox(NZ)) in third position.
In Brisbane Monday 11th of March 2002 The Brisbane meeting was held at Eagle Farm with 8 events on the program. TBNSW members recorded 1 winner, 2 second placings and 2 third placings on the day.
TBNSW members opened their account with a second placing in Race 1 the Gay Icarus Handicap. Lord Reggae (Voodoo Rhythm(USA)-Ralwindler) won from Interstorm (Integra-Deep Pile) bred by Mr R M Lapointe with Fly Like an Eagle(NZ)(Centaine-Distant Heights) third.
It was a third placing for TBNSW members in Race 5 the Ngawyni Handicap when Kreisler’s Jewel(NZ)(Kreisler(IRE)-Imperial Jewel(NZ)) scored from Canterbury Downs (Breakfast Creek-Come On Eileen) with Ianitis (Royal Academy(USA)-Starling) bred by Mr Gerry Harvey in third position.
TBNSW members were back in the winner’s circle and provided the trifecta in Race 8 the Dulcify Handicap when Cloistered Habits saluted. Cloistered Habits (Royal Academy(USA)-Quite Vespers) bred by Tabudan Pty Limited was successful from Salty Sal (Salt Lake(USA)-Ain’t She a Daisy(USA)) bred by Mr S F Johnson with Fryingpan (Canny Lad-Aspen Days) bred by Woodlands Stud in third place.
It was another great weekend of racing for TBNSW members who recorded four Group 2 wins (Fatoon, Snowland, Arlington Road and Elegant Fashion) and a Group 3 win (Bradshaw).
In Sydney Saturday 9th of March 2002 The venue was Rosehill for black type racing in Sydney on Saturday with the highlights being the Group 1 Coolmore Classic and the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes. It was a great day for TBNSW members who recorded 4 of the 8 winners (including three Group 2 winners and a Group 3 winner), 3 second placings and 5 third placings.
TBNSW members were off to a flying start with a quinella in Race 1 the Group 2 Reisling Slipper Trial for two-year-old fillies. Fatoon (Snaadee(USA)-Elated Lady) bred by Emirates Park Pty Limited was successful from Kidman (Quest for Fame(GB)-Unison) bred by Burst Pty Limited with Brief Embrace (Irgun(USA)-Tranquil Love) third.
A trifecta for TBNSW members in Race 2 the Group 2 Todman Slipper Trial for two-year-old colts and geldings. Snowland (Snippets-Snowdrift(FR) bred by Stratheden Stud scored from Yell (Anabaa(USA)-Vocalist) with Takas (Quest for Fame(GB)-Foreign Bank) in third place. Both second and third placegetters were bred by Woodlands Stud.
It was second and third placings for TBNSW members in Race 3 the Fine and Dandy Handicap when Rapida(NZ)(Senor Pete(USA)-Calon Segur(NZ)) won from Kalalycia (Kala Dancer(GB)-Sweet Flame) bred by Mr R C and Mrs A Ellis with Glenn (Grand Lodge(USA)-Carshalton) bred by Woodlands Stud in third position.
A winner and a third placing for TBNSW members in Race 4 the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes a 1500 metre event for three-year-olds. Arlington Road (Danehill(USA)-Joie de Vivre) bred by Mr Gerry Harvey saluted from Ugachaka(NZ)(Danasinga-Bolshoi Star(NZ)) with Gordo (Brief Truce(USA)-Spirit) bred by Woodlands Stud third.
One of the highlights on the program was Race 5 the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes in which TBNSW members recorded a third placing. Universal Prince (Scenic(IRE)-Biscay Bird) was successful from Dress Circle(NZ)(Zabeel(NZ)-Flight Queen(NZ)) with Freemason (Grand Lodge(USA)-Sashed(NZ)) bred by Woodlands Stud in third place.
The other highlight of the meeting was Race 6 the Group 1 Coolmore Classic run over 1500 metres for fillies and mares and TBNSW members recorded a third placing. The champion mare Sunline (Desert Sun(GB)Songline(NZ)) recorded her 11th Group 1 win and an historic 2nd Coolmore Classic when she won from Gentle Genius (Danehill(USA)-Darazina(FR)) with Nanny Maroon (Alquoz(USA)-Fyzabad) bred by Mr K J Nash in third position.
It was back to the winner’s circle for TBNSW members in Race 7 the Group 3 Australian Tie Company Stakes when Bradshaw was successful. Bradshaw (Last Tycoon(IRE)-Shaybisc) bred by Woodlands Stud scored from Canny Fly (Canny Lad-Baldeen) with Pembleton (Marauding(NZ)-Royal Aria(NZ)) third.
In Melbourne Saturday 9th of March 2002 Flemington was the venue for a nine event card on Saturday with the highlight of the meeting being the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap. It was a quiet day for TBNSW members who recorded 1 winner (in the Group 2 event).
Race 5 on the program was the PFD Food Services Stakes a listed race over 1400 metres. Tears Royal (Royal Academy(USA)-Don’t Cry) was too good for Notation (Danewin-Amazing Hit(NZ)) with Fappiano’s Son (Dolphin Street(FR)-Fappiano’s Girl) third.
The Group 1 Newmarket Handicap was Race 6 on the program run over 1200 metres and in a very close finish half the starters in the race finished within 1½ lengths of each other. The winner was Rubitano (Rubiton-Mrs Soffel) by a short half head to North Boy (Rory’s Jester-North Bell) with Mistegic (Strategic-Volcanic Mist) a half head away in third position.
TBNSW members were in the winner’s circle in Race 8 the Group 2 Kewney Stakes run over 1600 metres. Elegant Fashion (Danewin-Wily Trick(USA)) bred by Emirates Park Pty Limited scored from Bridal Hill (Unbridled’s Song(USA)-Stormy Hill) with Gold Lottey (Encosta de Lago-Lottey) in third position.
In Brisbane Saturday 9th of March 2002 Doomben was the venue for the 8 event program in Queensland on Saturday. TBNSW members recorded 2 winners, 2 second placings and 2 third placings on the day.
TBNSW members opened their account with a winner in Race 3 the PJ O’Brien’s Super QRIS Added Stakes Two-years-old Handicap. Swak (Strategic-Dearest) bred by Woodlands Stud was successful from Roar Talent (Lion Hunter-Santa Barbara) with Blazing Dancer (Defecting Dancer(GB)-Belle de Retz) third.
It was a third placing for TBNSW members in Race 4 the Allsports Lifestyle Clubs Super QRIS Added Stakes 3YO Cl 6 Handicap. Deuxieme (Telesto(NZ)-Serenely) won from Shannon Lee (Brave Warrior-Bush Band) with Cantrip (Canny Lad-Migvie(NZ)) bred by Woodlands Stud in third position.
TBNSW members were back in the winner’s circle and provided the quinella in Race 7 the FM104 Triple M/Guinness Handicap. Mallet (Brief Truce(USA)-Majalh) bred by Woodlands Stud was successful from Stormy Lodge (Our Maizcay-Storm Goddess) bred by Mr L J Fleming with Dynamic Reason (Defecting Dancer(GB)-Lady Devante) third.
It was second and third placings for TBNSW members in Race 8 the Excimer Laser Vision Centre Class 6 Handicap. Ramstadius (Success Express(USA)-Bridget’s Daughter) won from Veteran (Canny Lad-Versatile) bred by Woodlands Stud with Etre Accorde (Marscay-Sovereign Field(SAF)) bred by Mr Gerry Harvey in third place.
