Seattle Slew recuperating following surgery
Seattle Slew the Triple Crown winner has returned to Three Chimneys Farm in Kentucky to recuperate following recent surgery. Reports indicate that the stud are pleased with his progress.
Chief Bearhart to Shuttle Again to New Zealand
Chief Bearhart, the 7 time Champion Racehorse (including 1997 USA Champion Turf Horse and 97/98 Canadian Horse of the Year) will return to Glenmorgan Farm in New Zealand for his second southern hemisphere covering season. Chief Bearhart (Chief’s Crown-Amelia Bearhart) won 12 of his 26 starts (including 6 wins at Group 1 level) and had career earning of US$3,381,557. He will stand at a fee of NZ$18,000 (plus GST).
Significant Drop in Kentucky Bred Foals
The Bloodhorse has reported that as expected, there has been a significant drop in the number of Kentucky-bred foals to date which is a direct result of mare reproductive loss syndrome. As at 5 March there have been 1,247 live foals in Kentucky compared with 2,177 for the same period last year – this represents a fall of almost 43%.
Vapour Trail – 2001-2002 New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year
Vapour Trail(NZ) is the 2001-2002 New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year. The NZ Bloodstock Filly of the Year is a series of Group races from 1200 metres to 2400 metres and is specifically for three-year-old fillies. Vapour Trail with a score of 34 points, was 8 points clear of Blackrock College on 26 and Final Destination third with 12 points. Vapour Trail is by the Marscay stallion Jetball out of a Sir Tristram mare, Devil’s Lair(NZ) and was bred by Peter and Philip Vella.
