28. Bel Esprit, Lady Dehere top two-year-olds

08/03/2002

Bel Esprit's win in the Group One Blue Diamond Stakes last month kept him at the top of the two-year-old ratings in the Australia-New Zealand Classifications.

The classifications committee, headed by Racing Victoria's Jim Bowler, released its February ratings today with Lady Dehere, courtesy of her win in the Group Two Breeders Stakes, the top-rated juvenile in New Zealand.

Bel Esprit was rated at 101 with Brief Embrace, who chased him home in the Blue Diamond, next best on 100 ahead of Pillaging (98), Choisir (97) and Lady Dehere on 96.

In the three-year-old category, the retired Viscount was rated on 120 with Lonhro on 113 and Ha Ha, 111.

Vinaka (110) was the top-rated New Zealander.

Dash For Cash's wins in the Group One Australian Guineas and Futurity Stakes lifted him to a rating of 110.

Northerly was the top four-year-old or older with a rating of 122, with Sunline next on 121 and Cups heroine Ethereal on 119.

Evergreen Tie The Knot's effort to win his fourth consecutive Group One Chipping Norton Stakes resulted in him re-entering the classifications with a rating of 111.
