 Dehere Returns to Australia

04/03/2002

Arrowfield Stud is pleased to announce that the leading stallion Dehere (USA) will be returning to Australia to stand at Arrowfield for the 2002 southern hemisphere season. Dehere is owned by the Japanese Bloodhorse Breeders’ Association (JBBA).

Dehere was a Champion two year old in America and has now proven himself as a leading sire in both the Northern and Southern Hemisphere. Dehere returns to Australia with an outstanding record achieved with only four crops of racing age.

Dehere is the sire of 12 stakes winners in Australia to date including the Golden Slipper winner Belle du Jour and the Golden Slipper place-getter and recent stakes winner Red Hannigan. Dehere has also been represented by the stakes winners The Man, Andrella, De Valmont, Russian Caravan and St. Therese. His current two year olds include the leading New Zealand two year old filly Lady Dehere (NZ), winner of the NZ$500,000 Mercedes 2yo Classique and the Bank Of New Zealand Breeders Stakes G2, as well as the stakes winner De Lollies.

"Dehere has established himself here by getting a host of fast, early maturing horses that are well suited to our racing environment. He is a proven stallion whose yearlings are appreciated by trainers and we feel that he will be an excellent addition to the Arrowfield stallion roster," said Arrowfield Chairman John Messara.

Notably Arrowfield has been a consigner of some of the best of Dehere’s progeny in Australia including the stakes winners Belle du Jour, St. Therese, Andrella, De Valmont and Tyr. Dehere has lifetime Australian earnings over A$6.5 million and is lying 11th on the General Sires List of Australia. He is also the leading two year old sire of New Zealand this season.

"It is hoped that through Dehere’s shuttling the amicable cooperative relationship between Australian and Japanese breeders will be further reinforced," added Messara.

Dehere currently stands in Japan at a fee equivalent to A$40,000. Dehere’s 2002 Southern Hemisphere service fee has not been set.
