 TBNSW Weekend Racing News 

04/03/2002

Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd of March 2002 

 

It was another great weekend of racing for TBNSW members who recorded a Group 1 win (Dash for Cash), two Group 3 wins (Planchet and Victory Vein) and three Listed Race wins (Hot Riff, Red Hannigan and Make Me a Miracle).

 

In Sydney 02.03.02 – night meeting

The venue was Canterbury Park for black type night racing in Sydney on Saturday with the highlight being the Group 1 Canterbury Guineas. It was a great night for TBNSW members who recorded 4 of the 8 winners (including a Group 3 and 2 Listed Race wins), 5 second placings and 4 third placings.

 

It was a second placing for TBNSW members in Race 1 the Skyline Stakes a Group 3 event for two-year-old colts and geldings. Choisir (Danehill Dancer(IRE)-Great Selection) scored from Emerging Star (Anabaa(USA)-Arising) bred by Kirkby Investments Pty Ltd with Charlie Bub(NZ)(O’Reilly(NZ)-Ungara(NZ)) third.

 

Race 2 on the program was the Birthday Card Stakes a listed race over 1200 metres and TBNSW member Woodlands Stud provided the trifecta for the race. Hot Riff (Palace Music(USA)-Cerise ‘n’ Black) won from the deadheaters Omens (Octagonal(NZ)-Que Sera Sera) and Palais (Palace Music(USA)-Marine).

 

It was second and third placings for TBNSW members in Race 3 the Group 2 Canterbury Stakes when Empire (St Covet-Lowan’s Image) was successful from Diamond Dane (Danehill(USA)-Diamond Shower) bred by Mrs S E Suduk with Shogun Lodge (Grand Lodge(USA)-Pride of Tahnee) bred by Mr I and Mrs A Millard finishing powerfully for third position.

 

A winner for TBNSW members in Race 4 the Group 3 Sweet Embrace Stakes a 1200 metre event for two-year-old fillies. Victory Vein (Mr Henrysee(USA)-Protective) bred by Meringo Stud Farm was too good for Chuckle (Danehill(USA)-Clowning) with Calaway Gal (Clang-Calais Royle) in third place.

 

Second and third placings for TBNSW members in Race 5 the Group 3 Canterbury Cup. Kaapgun(NZ)(Kaapstad(NZ)-Bibi Star) won from Cheverny (Grand Lodge(USA)-Vionnet) bred by Mr O P Tait and Mrs S S Nivison with Time Off (Night Shift(USA)-Sonolia) bred by Woodlands Stud in third place.

 

The highlight of the meeting was Race 6 the Group 1 Canterbury Guineas run over 1900 metres for three-year-olds. Carnegie Express(NZ)(Carnegie(IRE)-Honeymoon Express(NZ)) scored from Pentastic (Pentire(GB)-Miss Minden) with Another Warrior (Brave Warrior-Kate Be Good) third.

 

TBNSW members provided the trifecta in Race 7 the Eskimo Prince Stakes a listed race for three-year-old colts and geldings. Red Hannigan (Dehere(USA)-Vital Consent) bred by Gooree Park Stud Pty Limited was successful from Magic Hatter (Mad Hatter-Sashay) bred by Mr W and Mrs P V McColgan with Academe (Royal Academy(USA)-Vionnet) bred by Mr O P Tait and Mrs S S Nivison in third position.

 

TBNSW members finished the night with a winner in Race 8 the Swarovski Bert Lillye Plate. Swiss Echo (Don’t Say Halo(USA)-Bedimpled(NZ)) bred by Gooree Park Stud Pty Limited was successful from Regal Zero (Victory Prince-Zero Hour) with Restless (Thunder Gulch(USA)-Let’s Hurry) in third place.

 

In Sydney 03.03.02

Sunday racing was held at Warwick Farm with eight events contested. TBNSW members recorded 1 winner, 4 second placings and 3 third placings on the day.

 

TBNSW members were off to a flying start with the trifecta in Race 1 the King Brian Handicap. Athelnoth (Coronation Day-Cloudrest) bred by Eclipse Stud was successful from Huit (Octagonal(NZ)-Seika) bred by Woodlands Stud with Conspirator (Marscay-Angel’s Wings) bred by Bhima Pty Limited in third position.

 

It was a second placing for TBNSW members in Race 2 the Grey Ghost Handicap when Dudley Do Right (Integra-Princess Dudley) won from Bear Canyon (Thunder Gulch(USA)-Oh So Canny) bred by Mrs S E Suduk with Jazzi Bullet (Bite the Bullet(USA)-Jasminka) third.

 

A second placing for TBNSW members in Race 3 the Kista Handicap. Ritual (St Covet-Starshine) scored from Clothilde (Danehill(USA)-Seika) bred by Woodlands Stud with Nordic Flight (Carry The Crown(CAN)-Alternate Flight) in third place.

 

A third placing for TBNSW members in Race 6 Classic Mission Handicap when Hydromaster (Umatilla(NZ)-Torrence) won from Joshua Michael(NZ)(He is Risen(USA)-Beaute Cheval(NZ)) with Time Signal (Snaadee(USA)-Pribar) bred by Emirates Park Pty Limited in third position.

 

It was a third placing for TBNSW members in Race 7 the Just Topic Handicap. Onyx (Sri Pekan(USA)-Black Jewel) was successful from Cups Quest (Quest for Fame(GB)-Dups Dufee) with Luskette (Luskin Star-Broadway Steel) bred by Mr P S Wauch in third place.

 

TBNSW members finished the day with a second placing in Race 8 the Broker’s Tip Handicap. Baby Bear (Jasmine Star(IRE)-Gold Mirage(NZ)) won from I Do Thee Wed (Bite the Bullet(USA)-Miss Truelove) bred by Mr A J Moulding with Ari Banu (Our Poetic Prince-Santa Belle) third.

 

 

In Melbourne 02.03.02 – day meeting

Caulfield was the day venue for a eight event card on Saturday with the highlight of the meeting being the Group 1 Futurity Stakes. TBNSW members recorded 3 winners (including the Group 1 event) and 2 second placings on the day.

 

TBNSW members opened their account with a winner in Race 1 the Biscay Super Vobis Handicap when Feel the Noise scored. Feel the Noise (Dehere(USA)-Slade) bred by Mr G Murphie was too good for Beach Box (Keltrice-Weekender) with Boy’s Talk (Clay Hero-Bionic Babe) third.

 

It was a quinella for TBNSW members in Race 2 the John C Reilly Super Vobis Handicap. Our Webster (Encounter-Pampas Fire) bred by Mr N Curtis was successful from El Capitan (Danehill(USA)-Oh So Canny) bred by Mrs S E Suduk with Plenary Indulgence (Lacryma Cristi(IRE)-Careless Comment) in third place.

Race 5 on the program was the Group 1 Futurity Stakes and it was another winner for TBNSW members when Dash for Cash saluted. Dash for Cash (Secret Savings (USA)-Gulistan) bred by Emirates Park Pty Limited scored from Chattanooga (Scenic(IRE)-Lemon Spice) with Aquiver (Danehill(USA)-Excited Angel) in third position.

 

The Group 2 St George Stakes was Race 6 on the program and it was a gutsy win for Northerly. Northerly (Serheed(USA)-North Bell) scored from Old Comrade (Old Spice-Belgravia) with Piper Star (Kaapstad(NZ)-Te Akau Star) third.

 

Race 7 on the program was the Shannons Classic a Group 2 event for three-year-olds and TBNSW members recorded a second placing. Don Eduardo(NZ)(Zabeel(NZ)-Our Diamond Lover) was successful from Royal Code (Kings Theatre(IRE)-Cryptomagic) bred by Mr L J Fleming with All Courage (Danzero-Runaway Babe) in third place.

 

 

In Melbourne 02.03.02 – night meeting

Moonee Valley was the venue for the night race meeting in Melbourne. TBNSW members recorded a winner on the night.

 

TBNSW members were off to a flying start providing the winner in Race 1 the Carlton Draught Handicap. Miduki (Snippets-Sufuf) bred by Stratheden Stud was too good for Archmobile (Archway(IRE)-Popemobile) with Lorette (Snippets-Celestial Flower in third place.

 

 

In Brisbane

Eagle Farm was the venue for the 8 event program in Queensland on Saturday. It was a good day for TBNSW members who recorded 3 winners and a third placing.

 

It was straight to the winner’s circle for TBNSW members in Race 1 the Over $4 Million Give Away Handicap. Prince Starlight (Telesto(NZ)-Go Lightly) bred by Mr K J Burke was successful from City Mission (Semipalatinsk(USA)-Rattenberg) with Trail of Gold (Danewin-Margaret Layton) in third position.

 

It was a third placing for TBNSW members in Race 3 the www.Trilbymisso.com.au Handicap when Tyche (Saltgrass(USA)-Ramonita(USA) scored from Miss Thundercat (Sequalo-Jungle Jive) with Grand Estime (Last Tycoon(IRE)-Bislotto) bred by Mr Gerry Harvey in third place.

 

TBNSW members were back in the winner’s circle in Race 6 the QTBOA Handicap when Bagpipes saluted. Bagpipes (Palace Music(USA)-Rhythm Section) bred by Woodlands Stud scored from Sonic Switch (Switch In Time(IRE)-Milady Tobias) with Sahara Covet (St Covet-Our Believingly) third.

 

It was another winner for TBNSW members in Race 8 the QLD Racehorse Owners Handicap when Lighthouse Road (Wategos-Trio Rogue) bred by Mr M J Dougherty was successful from Northern Crusader (Snippets-Cumnock Lass) with Blow the Whistle (Success Express(USA)-Antelliere) in third position.

 

 

In Canberra

Black type racing was held at Canberra on Saturday with the two highlights of the day being the Group 3 Black Opal Stakes and the National Sprint a listed event. It was a great day for TBNSW members who provided the winners for both of the highlights.

 

First up was the National Sprint and a win for TBNSW members. Make Me a Miracle (Flying Spur-Commercial Choice(USA)) bred by Mr S F Johnson was too good for Impregnable (Bite the Bullet(USA)-Heaven Blessed) with Knickerbocker Kid (Opera Prince-Mannequin) in third place.

 

The Group 3 Black Opal Stakes a 1200 metre event for two-year-olds was the next race on the program and TBNSW members provided the quinella. Planchet (Canny Lad-Penny) bred by Woodlands Stud was successful from Mukareena (Mukaddamah(USA)-Call Me Kareena) bred by Mr H Cope with Majorette (Strategic-Rhythm Review) in third position.
