Average Up 61% At The Gold Coast Premier Sale Hailed A Resounding Success
Hailed a resounding success, the new format Gold Coast Premier Sale returned a 61 percent increase in Average, with $14,050 way up on the $8,709 Average of the 2001 Superbowl Yearling Sale.
Of the 264 Yearlings catalogued 179 lots sold, with 57 passed and 28 withdrawn. The total Sale Aggregate at $2,515,000 was only two thousand less than the 2001 Aggregate of $2,517,000 where almost double the number of lots were catalogued.
Managing Director of Magic Millions, Mr David Chester commented "The average increase of 38% was mainly attributed to an improvement in quality of the yearlings offered".
"This sale has gone against the downward trend of sales conducted in Australia so far this year", Chester commented.
The top price of $90,000 was paid for Lot 133 a Chestnut Colt by General Nediym out of Rose County, by one of Malaysia's Leading owners Tang Weng Fei.
"The colt was one of the most outstanding types that Magic Millions has sold all year", said David Chester.
Mick Dittman outlayed $70,000 for a Lion Hunter Colt out of Gentle Marchesa, and Norman Thomas Bazeley was active in securing a Charnwood Forest Filly out of Huntington Girl for $75,000 and a Lion Hunter colt out of Supermarket for $60,000.

"In addition the strength and quality of stallions which we now stand in Queensland has greatly boosted the sale, after all we have Australia's leading 2YO Sire in Lion Hunter standing here at Oaklands Stud, and Australia's second Leading First Season Sire in Irgun standing at Furlong Stud, so the demand in the market for the progeny of these sires was high", said David Chester.
