 9. Melbourne June Sale Full of Quality

The 2002 June Weanling and Thoroughbred Sale is the largest bloodstock sale in Victoria (896 lots) featuring 393 broodmares, 65 yearlings and a good selection of tried racehorses, preceded by a full day of 335 weanlings, beginning at 10 am on Sunday morning, 23rd June.
The June Weanling Sale is well established as the largest sale of it's type in Australia, offering buyers a wide choice of quality youngsters to suit any purpose and price range. Popular sires represented include: Bianconi (USA), Danehill Dancer (IRE), Desert Sun (GB), Encosta de Lago, Fasliyev (USA), Flying Spur, General Nediym, King of Kings (IRE), Marauding (NZ), Perugino (USA), Redoute's Choice, Rubiton, Secret Savings (USA), Shovhog, Strategic, etc.

The overall quality of the broodmares on offer is the best ever seen at a Victorian bloodstock sale. Highlights are many and include: CALYPSO BREEZE (NZ) (Lot 361), by Centaine, dam of stakes-winner Dragila, in foal to Thunder Gulch (USA); HULA WONDER (Lot 491), outstanding racemare, 13 wins including two at Group Three level and nearly $400,000, has not been to stud; ALWAYS DIVINE (Lot 534), Group Two winner by Snippets, in foal to Last Tycoon (IRE); COULDN'T MISS (GB) (Lot 569), dam of champion filly Northwood Plume, in foal to King of Kings (IRE); MARINE PARK (Lot 684), stakes-winner and dam of stakes-winner Drop Anchor, in foal to Danehill Dancer (IRE); DESERT ORCHID (NZ) (Lot 685), dam of Group One winner Desert Sky, in foal to Hurricane Sky; DROP ANCHOR (Lot 687), stakes-winner, in foal to Perugino (USA); SPINNING REEL (Lot 707), dam of Alfa, winner of the VATC Caulfield Guineas Gr 1, in foal to Favorite Trick (USA), etc.

The yearling section features 65 youngsters by a range of popular sires, including proven performers: Archway (IRE), El Moxie (USA), Encosta de Lago, Hurricane Sky, Marauding (NZ), Maroof (USA), Perugino (USA), Rubiton, and Umatilla (NZ), etc.

The racehorse section features many smart gallopers, highlighted by a host of nicely bred fillies including: MOMENTARY MADNESS (Lot 804), winning half-sister by Dehere (USA) to Group One winner Blue Murder; DANVIVA (Lot 826), good metropolitan winner, half-sister to stakes-winner Dream of the Dance; FLYING FLUORO (Lot 835), unraced three year old filly by Flying Spur from stakes-winner Fluoro; EXCITING THUNDER (Lot 839), unraced three year old filly by Thunder Gulch (USA) from stakes-winner Excitable Lady; MRS BENTLY (Lot 844), stakes-placed winner of 10 races and $280,190; Show No Restraint (Lot 866), winning half-sister to stakes-winner Slanchyvah, by Barathea (IRE), etc.
