 37. Anabaa Lights Up Chantilly

12/06/2002

What a super month it has been in France for Widden Stud’s champion sprinter Anabaa. Hot on the heels of the Criquette Head-Maarek-trained Rouvres (Anabaa--Riziere by Groom Dancer) thrilling win in the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat, last years French Derby winner Anabaa Blue (Anabaa--Allez Les Trois by Riverman) scored his first victory as a four-year-old in the Grand Prix de Chantilly (G2) on Sunday.
Two day’s previously three-year old filly Ana Marie (Anabaa--Marie De Ken by Kendor) finished a gallant third in the Group 1 Pix de Diane Hermes (French Oaks).

Ridden by Christophe Soumillon, Anabba Blue defeated the dead-heaters Ange Gabriel (Kaldounevees-Mount Gable by Head For Heights) and St Expedit (Sadler's Wells--Miss Rinjani (GB), by Shirley Heights) by 1 1/2 lengths in the mile and a half Grand Prix de Chantilly (G2).
It was the bays fourth win from 11 starts with two seconds and two thirds. Besides his Prix du Jockey Club (G1) (French Derby) victory. Anabaa Blue was a six-lengths winner of the Prix Noailles (G2) and second in the Group 1 Prix Lupin last year.

Anabaa Blue is out of stakes winning mare Riverman mare Allez Les Trois, a half sister to Darley Stud’s English 2000 Guineas (G1) hero King's Best (Kingmambo), who began stud duties at Collingrove Stud NSW last spring, and Arc winner Urban Sea (Miswaki), dam of Sadler’s Wells champion three-year old colt Galileo who will be standing his first season in 2002 at Coolmore Stud.
