 36. Nashwan Mare Popular on Gold Coast

12/06/2002

A mare, who's by a champion, from a champion, a half sister to champion and in foal to a champion topped today's Winter Carnival Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast.

The mare Nanshan, who placed up to nine furlongs in Europe, was offered as part of the dispersal of Rob Ferguson's Torryburn Stud, and she was knocked down for $425,000.

A daughter of the 1989 Champion European Three-Year-Old Nashwan, the mare is out of the Cheveley Park Stud (G1) winner Pass the Peace.

At stud Pass the Peace has produced the Champion Filly Embassy, the stakes winner Tarfshi and the stakes placed Puck's Castle, who is now better known as the dam of the stakes winner Emerald Peace.

The mare, who's had three foals to date in her short career at stud, was in foal to the champion New Zealand based Group One winning sire Zabeel.

Nanshan was knocked down the leading New South Wales based nursery, Emirates Park.

Moments later the Group winner Prefer an Angel was sold to Reavill Farm's John Rippon for $300,000.

A little earlier the beautifully bred Marscay mare La Mambo was sold to Fairpast Pty Ltd (acting as agents) for a mystery buyer for $330,000.
