 35. Mystery Buyer Snares Top Marscay Mare

12/06/2002

A mystery buyer has paid $330,000 for the beautifully bred Marscay mare La Mambo during the Winter Carnival Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast this afternoon.
Purchased under the Faripast Pty Ltd banner, the mare was actually sold to another client who wished to remain anonymous according to Magic Millions.

La Mambo is by the former Golden Slipper winner Marscay who's the broodmare sire of stars including Catbird, Barkada, Defier, Lovelorn, Mr Murphy, Akhenaton, Camerena, Marstic, La Baraka, Yippyio, Arkady and Lady Marion.

She is out of the unraced Vice Regal mare Tupelo Honey. At stud Tupelo Honey has produced the New Zealand and Australian Oaks winner Domino, who is in turn the dam of Group One winning Kiwi galloper Hero.

Offered as part of the Torryburn Stud dispersal, La Mambo was sold for $330,000. She was in foal to Danehill's Golden Slipper winning son Flying Spur, one of Australia's most promising young sires.

Closely related to the stakes winners Sale of Century, Super Natural, Bayremah, Top of the Pops, Marscay Boy, Westminster and Veloso, the mare was catalogued as lot number 414.
