Magic Millions Winter Carnival Sale

Nashwan’s imported daughter Nanshan, in foal to Zabeel, sold for $425,000 to bring the top price in the broodmare section of the Magic Millions Winter Carnival Sale on July 12.
The final session of the three-day sale capped the most successful winter sale conducted by Magic Millions when 11 of the 161 broodmares sold realised more than $100,000.
Nanshan was offered as part of the Torryburn Stud dispersal and was purchased by Emirates Park Stud in NSW. She is out of Pass The Peace, winner of five races including the G1 Newmarket Cheveley Park Stakes and runner-up in the French 1000 Guineas.
Pass The Peace has already produced four winners including Embassy, who emulated her dam by also winning the G1 Cheveley Park Stud Stakes.
Other big-selling mare were La Mambo, an unraced Marscay half sister to Oaks winner Domino in foal to Flying Spur, and the Group winner Prefer An Angel in foal to Danzero.
La Mamba was purchased by Faripast Pty Limited of NSW for $330,000 while Prefer An Angel went for $300,000 to NSW buyer John Rippon.
The broodmare section realised an aggregate of $4,858,750 at an average of $30,179 with the Torryburn dispersal of 33 mares bringing a total of $3.22 million.
* A colt by Snippets brought the top of $137,500 at the Magic Millions Winter Carnival Weanling Sale on June 11.
The colt, purchased by Widden Stud, was offered as part of the dispersal of Rob Ferguson’s Torryburn Stud at Scone.
Ferguson, a director of the Magic Millions company, offered 20 weanlings without reserve and has 34 mares listed for the final day off the sale on June 12.
The Snippets colt is out of the Canny Lad mare Ultima Vita, a half sister to the VRC St Leger winner Full At Last. Her only foal to race has won five races in Hong Kong.
Other high prices in the Torryburn draft were $120,000 for a filly by Redoute’s Choice and $105,000 for Flying Spur filly.
The weanling section of the sale saw 115 lots sold for an aggregate of $1,755,900 with the Torryburn dispersal helping to push the average to $15,269.
* THE opening day of the Magic Millions Winter Carnival Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast on June 9 realised a 42 percent increase in the aggregate.
A total of 117 lots were soldfor $1,807,250 with the average up by 28 percent to $15,447.
A filly by Danzero from the Rory’s Jester mare Grey Jest brought the top price of $90,000.
The sale attracted buyers from Hong Kong and Macau.
