 31. Tycoon Lil Sold To Japan

11/06/2002

Top class mare Tycoon Lil is on her way to Japan to continue her breeding career.

Prominent Auckland owner Peter Walker has sold Tycoon Lil, in foal to Zabeel, to Japan’s famous Shadai Stud Farm, owned by the Yoshida family.

Walker was reported to have made the decision to sell the triple G1 winner by Last Tycoon for an undisclosed sum for business reasons.

Walker is believed to have become disenchanted with breeding after Tycoon Lil’s first foal, a colt by Zabeel, was passed in at $275,000 at the Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney in April.
Walker has another 10 broodmares that he reportedly intends to sell over the next 12 months.

However he will continue to race horses including the Zabeel colt that was passed in at Easter. He is to be trained in New Zealand by Colin Jillings.

Tycoon Lil was the NZ Horse of the Year for 1997-98 after winning the G1 NZ Oaks, G1 Canterbury Guineas, G1 NZ 1000 Guineas and three G2 races. She was also placed in the G1 Rosehill Guineas G1 Caulfield Stakes and G1 W.S. Cox Plate.
