 30. Old Spice Stays At Clairefontaine

11/06/2002

The futures of top Western Australian sires Old Spice and Laranto have been resolved.

Stud arrangements for the pair have been up in the air since leading stud owner Mark Spencer died last month after a long illness.

Old Spice and Laranto rose to the top of the WA stallion ranks while standing at Spencer’s Clairefontaine Stud at Busselton.

Spencer's widow Lynda will disperse the some of their breeding stock at the Magic Millions mixed sale in Perth on June 16, including eight broodmares, six yearlings and a two-year-old.

However she will retain the 22-year-old Old Spice at Clarefontaine Stud while Laranto will transfer to Bellbridge Park Stud where he will stand with Corporate Raider next spring.

Old Spice, the sire of eight individual G1 winners including Rogan Josh, Old Comrade, Spectrum, Old Role, Old Money and Natasha, served 49 mares last season.
