 28. Magic Millions Winter Carnival Yearling Sale

09/06/2002

A much-improved catalogue saw the one-day Magic Millions Winter Carnival Yearling sale conclude today with a 42% increase in aggregate. 117 yearlings sold with a gross aggregate of $1,807,250 at an average of $15,447. While the clearance rate improved over last year it was still a slightly disappointing 70%. Last years Winter Carnival yearling sale saw 105 lots sold for a gross aggregate of $1,269,500 at an average of $12,090 and a clearance rate of 60%.

Last years top price of $45,000 was equaled or bettered seven times this year with top price of $90,000 being paid for a grey filly by Danzero from stakes-placed Rory’s Jester mare Grey Jest. Offered by Murrulla Stud,as agent, the filly was purchased by Heinrich Bloodstock.
Second top price at $87,500 was the bay or brown Fuji Kiseki colt out of the Marauding mare Partible. A half-brother to the very useful Specified (Zeditave) the colt descends from the proven Newhaven Stud family of AJC Oaks winner Invade. Offered by Bahram Stud, as agent, the colt was purchased by Magus Equine.

Managing Director David Chester said "This continues the trend of Magic Millions Sales, our last yearling sale in March the Gold Coast Premier Sale ended with a staggering 61% increase in average and this Winter Carnival Sale has followed suit with its 42% increase".
"Magic Millions has aggressively marketed this sale and buyers were present from Hong Kong and Macau, there was also strong support from Sydney and Melbourne trainers".
"The results for this sale prove there is a strong demand for yearlings at this time of the year, as it is an ideal buying time for ready to run and agents for south east asian buyers", Mr Chester said.

The Magic Millions Winter Carnival sale resumes on Tuesday 11th June with the Weanling Sale and is followed by the Broodmare sale featuring the Dispersal of Torryburn Stud on Wednesday 12th June 2002.
