 20. First Northern Hemisphere Winner For King Of Kings

06/06/2002

Coolmore Stud’s English 1000 Guineas winner King Of Kings (Sadler’s Wells) has sired his first northern hemisphere winner. The Ed Dunlop trained colt Dharkan, a $175,000 yearling, won the 6-furlong maiden at Southwell on June 5 by a comfortable 1 ¼-lengths at just his second start.

The first southern hemisphere conceived crop by King Of Kings has been winning with regularity of late. Last week he sired four individual winners to take his total to seven for the season.

The dam of Dharkan, Meritorious (St. Jovite) was placed twice from 11 starts in the States and is out of an unraced sister to Arlington Washington Lassie Stakes (G1) winner Contredance (Danzig), stakes winner Old Alliance and a half-sister to stakes winner Skimble (Lyphard) (dam of Grade One winner Skimming (Nureyev)), Nimble Feet (Lyphard), (dam of multiple Grade One placed Eltish (Cox's Ridge)), and Flit (Lyphard) (dam of English 1000 Guineas winner Wince (Selkirk)).
