In a deal just brokered by Dermot Farrington Bloodstock, the former Bart Cummings-trained Shrewdy will stand his first season at Di Hill’s Foxes Hollow Stud.
It is an appropriate addition to Di Hill’s stallion roster, as it comes at a time her Foxes Hollow Stud celebrates 20 years in the breeding industry.
Shrewdy, the dual city winner of two of his only six starts, had his exciting career prematurely cut short by injury.
The exceptionally-bred Shrewdy - by Champion sire and sire of sires Danehill (USA), from the impressively bred Marscay mare, Canny Miss - is bred on a similar cross as Redoute’s Choice, Catbird and is closely related to outstanding sire, Canny Lad.
Danehill (USA) is the sire of winners of over $137.7 m. and 180 SW's and his sons at stud are continuing to make headlines, including leading 1st season sire Lion Hunter, sire of outstanding Gr 1 winning two-year-old filly, Lovely Jubly.
Shrewdy’s dam, Canny Miss, is a three-quarter sister to prolific Group 1 winners
Canny Lad and Canny Lass (dam of stakes winner Astute Angel and D’Cash), as well as dual listed winner, Sister Canny.
Shrewdy is a full brother to Group 1 winning filly Camarena, the winner of 9 races and almost $1m including the Gr 1 QTC Queensland Derby, Gr 2 Queensland Guineas.
A full brother to Shrewdy was purchased by Darley Australia for $950,000 at the 2002 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.
Few horses will go to stud this season with a more impressive pedigree, giving broodmare owners a great source of proven bloodlines at an affordable price.
Shrewdy will stand at Di Hill’s Foxes Hollow Stud in NSW for a 2002 service fee of $5,500 inc.GST.
