Anabaa has produced another Group One star in France.
Rouvres, trained by Criquette Head-Maarek, won the G1 Prix Jean Prat at the French Derby meeting at Chantilly on June 2, 12 months to the day after Anabaa colt Anabaa Blue won the G1 Prix du Jockey Club (Derby).
It was the third win of the year for Rouvres, who outstayed the Godolphin hope Imtiyaz by a short neck.
Head-Maarek, who trains the winner for her father Alec, is now looking to Royal Ascot where Rouvres is entered for the G1 St James’s Palace Stakes.
Anabaa, Widden Stud’s French-based shuttle sire, has also produced top class G1 filly Amonita in France but is yet to notch a G1 win in Australia where his oldest progeny are three-year-olds.
However he has attained high prominence through some brilliant winners including Donna Natalia, King Of Prussia and Heritiere,
In the Prix Du Jockey Club Sulamani, a son of Hernando, completed a notable family double as he emulated the win in the French classic by not only his sire in 1993 but also his half brother Dream Well in 1998.
Sulamnani, trained by Pascal Bary and ridden by Thierry Thulliez, came from near last to beat In The Wings’ undefeated favorite Act One by 1 1/2 lengths and give his trainer his fourth French Derby.
Bred in Ireland, Sulamani is out of the Alleged mare Soul Dream, a half sister to G1 winner Metamorphose.
Hernando, by Nijinsky, is a half brother to former shuttle sire Johann Quatz while Dream Well, by Sadler’s Wells, stood at stud in New Zealand for one season in 2000.
Danehill got in for his share of the spoils on Derby Day at Chantilly with two winners including the three-year-old filly in the G2 Prix de Sandringham.
