Golden Slipper winner Calaway Gal has a rival for the distinction of being Brisbane's most brilliant two-year-old of the past season in the shape of another Queensland bred youngster in theTelesto gelding Star of Florida.The Pat Duff trained juvenile followd up a win at Toowoomba by 8 1/4 lengths at his second outing by exploding to a 7 lengths win course record time at Doomben on Saturday, covering the1110 metres in1:02.95.

Star of Florida was bred by Greg Kelly at his RoystonStud at Innisplain using residetn sire Telesto, a dual Group One winner by Star Way, and the very brilliantly bred Try It On. This mare only manageda place herself in a light campaign at two, but she is by the very smart Danzig horse Snaadee and from Designer Award, a mare bred on a cross of two Golden Slipper winners, Marscay and Vain. The family also produced the Danzig grandson Owington (by Green Desert), the European champion sprinter of1994.
