The feature event at Muswellbrook Race Club's meeting on Sunday (July 21), the $30,000 Bengalla Mining Community Cup, was taken out by a visitor from Hawkesbury, the Noel Mayfield-Smith trained Shockeroo. Sent out an odds-on favourirte and with Darryl McLellan aboard, Shockeroo landed the prize by half a length from the runner up Incident, a representative of the Paul Perry stable.

Now winner of six of 24 outings including an appearance at Randwick on July 13,Shockeroo is a son of the course record setting Blue Diamond winner Hurricane Sky, a sire who is now a resident at the Arrowfield Stud after being at Wakefield Stud through to this year.

The seven event program opened up with a smart win in a1000 metre maiden by The People's Champ, a lightly raced three-year-old gelding trained at the Scone complex by Jen Butler. Formerly from Albury and a one time jockey aspirant, she only has half a dozen horses in work but has won races at each of the past two Muswellbrook meetings, having been successful on July 2 with six-year-old Sir Canny.

Jen's success with these two horses suggests she is not only a good trainer but that she has a good eye for a prospect in the sale ring. She bought these winners as tried horses in Sydney at prices under $3000.
