The importance of one of Queensland's most successful current sources of winners, Sea Road, as a broodmare sire was demonstrated again at the weekend. It came through Smart Chariot, a three-year-old gelding which followed up two wins at Eagle Farm at his only two earlier outings by taking out the Sunshine Coast Guineas.
The winner is by the Bletchingly sire Chariot and from Coral Spring, an unraced daughter of Sea Road, the sire earlier of the dams of at least forty other winners to date including Awesome Weather, the winner on June 29 of the Ipswich Cup.
A competent performer by the Njinsky sire Whiskey Road, Sea Road has spent all his stud career with Fred Brown at the Glen Avon Lodge Stud at Southbrook near Toowoomba. Here he has been responsible for over 300 winners of 1000 races and $11million.
Heading his honour board has been Camino Rose, the first Queensland bred mare to earn over $1million and Seawinne, the best filly of her time In Brisbane. Seawinne,16 wins, and Camino Rose, 9 wins, have been typical of the tough, sound stock generated by Sea Road. They are traits that add to the appeal of his daughters as breeders.
A number of these and other offspring by him are in the catalogue covering the Glen Avon Lodge dispersal sale to be conducted by Magic Millions Sales Pty Ltd on the property on Sunday July 21.This sale, one which follows the sale of the stud to NSW breeding interests, is to include 94 mares, 60 weanlings, six yearlings and eight two-year-olds.
Lady Road, a full metropolitan winning sister to Camino Rose and producer already of the stakes placed Pedro's Tycoon, is one of the gems by Sea Road in the catalogue. She is also due to be represented at the sale by a weanling colt by Blue Diamond winner Knowledge, another of the stud's resident sires.
Another youngster by Knowledge and from a Sea Road mare available is a half-brother to Awesome Weather. Their dam is also listed along with Lots of Style (a half-sister to outstanding racehorse Stylish Century), Reviewed (dam of current Brisbane juvenile star Sir Breakfast), Bionic Flash (dam of two stakes winners) and Our Sweet Girl (one of her foals in Queensland Cup winner Noel's Wish) to mention but a
few.
