Flying Spur; Spinning World; Tattersall's July Sale; Forty Niner; Sunday Silence; King's Theatre; Urge To Merge; Act One.

GOLDEN Slipper Stakes winner Flying Spur continues to build an imposing international reputation as a sire with a Group 3 winner at the prestigious Newmarket July meeting in the UK.

Mister Links, an Irish-bred colt by Flying Spur from the Ahonoora mare Lady Anna, won the G3 July Stakes for two-year-olds on July 10 to maintain an unbeaten record in three starts.

Flying Spur has now sired his 17 stakes winners including five first-time stakeswinners in the past four months.

Mister Links is trained by Richard Hannon, England’s top two-year-old trainer. He beat his stablemate Tacitus to give Hannon his 35th juvenile win of the season.

SPINNING WORLD has added to his great start in Australia with another promising two-year-old winner.

A week after the impressive debut win by Thorn Park at Rosehill, the Gai Waterhouse-trained Al Megdam scored by eight and a half lengths at Kembla Grange on July 6.

To give Spinning World his fifth individual winner in Australia this season.

His great run continued on the opening day of the Newmarket July meeting in the UK on July 9 with the sire recording a notable double. 

His two-year-old daughter Spinola won the G2 Cherry Hinton Stakes before his his three-year-old filly Spinnette brought his tally of first crop winners to 29 when taking the final race of the day.

TURTLE Island three-year-old Mirpour brought the top price of 115,000 guineas at the second session of the Tattersalls July Sale on July 10.

The bay gelding is out of the Group perfomer Mirana, by Ela-Mana-Mou and is a half brother to the G3 winner Miliana. 

Aleron, a Sadler’s Wells full brother to Breeders’ Cup Turf winner and leading sire In The Wings, brought the second-highest bid on the day.

A winner in Dubai, he is out of the G1 winner High Hawk by Shirley Heights.

Next best at 52,000 guineas was the Dubai winner Aleron, a full brother to the highly successful Darley stallion In The Wings.

The second session saw 127 lots sold for a total of 1,477,300 guineas, taking the two-day total to a July Sale record of 2,831,000 guineas.

Peaceabale, a Japanese-bred Irish River mare from a half sister to Lammtarra’s dam and Oaks winner Snow Bride, brought 50,000 guineas.

THE opening session of the Tattersalls July Sale on July 9 saw 130 lots sold for 1,363,200 guineas, a rise of 90% on last year. The average of 10,486 guineas was a rise of 52% on last year.

The highlight of the day was a consignment of six mares and fillies from Cheveley Park Stud with two of the sextet providing the highest prices.

The top price of 110,000 guineas was paid for the Danehill mare Wish, a winning daughter of the G2 Cherry Hinton Stakes winner Dazzle.

She was offered in foal to Cheveley Park's young stallion sensation Pivotal, following on from his daughter Megahertz extending her unbeaten run in California to five wins in the $US500,000 American Oaks on July 6.

Polish Belle, a Polish Precedent mare, brought the second highest price of 75,000 guineas. 

She is out of Miswaki Belle and is a half-sister to the G3 winner Danehurst, favourite for Thursday's G1 Darley July Cup at Newmarket.

She was offered in foal to Cheveley Park's resident Derby winner Benny The Dip.

FORTY NINER, the Japanese-based stallion whose sire sons are making big inroads in Australasia, may be returning to the US to stand in Kentucky.

Taylor Made Farm has confirmed an interest in purchasing Forty Niner. The Japanese press reported a $US10 million offer has been made for the 17-year-old son of Mr. Prospector. 

Forty Niner, who began his stud career at Claiborne Farm in Kentucky, has sired 44 stakes winners and ranks ninth on the 2002 Japanese sire list by progeny earnings. 

Forty Niner was bought for $US10 million by the Japan Racing Association in 1995. He stands at the Japan Bloodhorse Breeders' Association's Shizunai Stallion Station.

Forty Niner’s sons who have previously stood in Australasia or will be here this spring include End Sweep, Twining, Distorted Humor, Gold Fever, Inflate, Esperero and Tailings.

Distorted Humor, who stood in Victoria in1999 and 2000, produced the winner of the G3 Debutante Stakes at Churchill Downs on July 6 from his first northern hemisphere crop.

SUNDAY SILENCE dominated again when his brother to champions Dance Partner and Dance in the Dark brought a record price of 335 million yen ($US2,791,667) on the second and final day of the Japan Racing Horse Association select foal sale on July 10.

The price was a record for the auction, which has been conducted annually since 1998. 

The colt is from the unraced Nijinsky mare Dancing Key.

The sale ended with 186 lots sold for a gross of 5,439,600,000 yen ($US45,330,000) at an average price of 29,250,000 yen ($US243,750). 

The second day of the sale saw four Sunday Silence foals sell for more than $US1 million after he had the two top priced lots on the opening day.

A highlight of the sale was the first offering of northern hemisphere foals by Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus

He emerged as the leading first season sire with lots sold for $US708,333 and $675,000.

QUEENSLAND-based shuttler King’s Theatre sired the winner of the Swedish Oaks on July 5.

Kimola took the classic to go with her earlier win in the Swedish 1000 Guineas, beating the Danish 1000 Guines winner Reference Lady, a daughter of Revoque.

SUNTAGONAL, a two-year-old with hjgh profile Australian connections, won the G1 Greyville Premier’s Champion Stakes in South Africa on July 7.

Suntagonal is by Octagonal from Urge To Merge, a full sister to the Australian-bred South African champion sprinter Tracy’s Element and also Melbourne Group winner Towkay. 

She is also a half sister to G1 winner Danasinga and G1-placed Cullen, by Last Tycoon from the Ahonoora mare Princess Tracy. 

Urge To Merge’s third foal, a filly by outstanding sire End Sweep, was sold at this year’s Magic Millions yearling sale for $205,000. 

ACT ONE, the top class In The Wings three-year-old who has been retired due to injury to stand at Shadwell Farm, will not shuttle to Australia.

The colt's late owner Gerald Leigh decreed that Act One was to never serve dual hemisphere seasons.

Act One won his first five starts, including the G1 Grand Criterium and G1 Prix Lupin, and suffered his only defeat in the French Derby where he suffered a hairline fracture of his cannon bone.
