 30. End Sweep Withdrawn From Service

10/07/2002

The Australian breeding industry has been dealt another crushing blow with the news that Arrowfield Stud’s End Sweep has suffered an injury that will force him to miss the Australian season. He becomes the fourth high profile stallion to be withdrawn from service this year after the decision not to shuttle Danehill, the death of champion printer Mozart and the forced withdrawal of King’s Best.

END SWEEP - forced to miss the season through injury.

A press release states that Arrowfield regret to advise that their stallion End Sweep will not be able to serve in Australia in the upcoming Southern Hemisphere Season due to a serious injury to his wither sustained recently in Japan.

Despite all the efforts made by the attending veterinarians, the stallion’s response to treatment has been slow. In the light of the above, the Syndicate has had no option but to withdraw the stallion from stud duties in the 2002 season.

“We are obviously very disappointed. The horse had been so warmly received by the marketplace here and to have this happen just before his first two year olds hit the track here is really unfortunate,” said Arrowfield Chairman John Messara.

“At this stage we are working on a replacement stallion for this season. If we are able to secure this horse it will be announced in the next few days,” Messara added.
