22. Ethereal To Giant’s Causeway

One high profile mare that was due to visit Danehill this season had her future decided today when the Vella brothers of Pencarrow Stud announced that their champion mare Ethereal will visit Coolmore’s new Storm Cat stallion Giant's Causeway.

”His type in both conformation and racecourse performance is well suited. He was an unbeaten Group One winning two-year old that kept improving at three. Ethereal will fly to Australia this evening and is in very good condition for her trip, having let down nicely into her new role as a broodmare” said a report on the Pencarrow Stud website

A daughter of Breeders Cup Juvenile winner Rhythm out of the top-class Sir Tristram mare Romanee Conti, Ethereal started 21 times for 8 wins, 1 second, 1 third and prize money earnings of A$4.74m.

Her four Group 1 victories came in the Queensland Oaks, Caulfield Cup, Melbourne Cup and finally the BMW at Rosehill on March 23rd 2002. She is a leading contender for Australian Horse Of The Year honours.
