Sydney’s 2002 Winter Thoroughbred Sale promises to be a bright spot on the winter calendar.
The sale at Newmarket on July 19 will feature some 282 mixed lots including: 95 tried racehorses, 57 yearlings, 22 weanlings, two stallions and 105 quality broodmares.
Adding considerable class to the catalogue will be a dispersal of stock by Dubbo’s Lucernevale Stud, a sizable reduction of broodmares and race fillies from Gooree Park Stud at Mudgee and a reduction of tried racehorses from Tarcoola Park Thoroughbreds..
The Lucernevale Stud dispersal comprises 13 weanlings, by sires such as Langfuhr, Zeditave and Covetous, in addition to 15 broodmares and one race filly.
Highlights among the Lucernevale mares include Single Liner, dam of the stakeswinner Top Comedian in foal to Ashkalani; Roadstop, a metropolitan winning sister to stakeswinner Condotti and three-quarter sister to Blue Diamond winner Road to Success in foal to Zeditave; and Ancient Albatross, a half sister to stakeswinner Danajaya served by Langfuhr.
Buyers will have a unique opportunity to tap into some of Gooree Park Stud's most successful bloodlines, with 21 broodmares, four race fillies and one colt catalogued for sale.
The acehorse section includes classy stakeswinning sprinter Crete, stakes placed Zodiac Star and metropolitan winners Tara Express, She Sizzles, Gallant Pride and Boston.
A notable entry is Brining Joy, the Danehill filly who created a ig impression wining at Randwick on June 26. She will command a high price as she is from the same family as Rory's Jester and Ha Ha.
The impressive Grandiser, a brilliant winner of four races from seven starts is another interesting entry given his status as a two time bleeder.
He is banned from racing in Australia and will be looking for new owners with aspirations to race him in America.
The 57 yearlings in the Winter Sale include progeny by Flying Spur, Fuji Kiseki, Marauding, Peintre Celebre, Rubiton, Secret Savings and Spectrum.
