The 2002 Winter Thoroughbred Sale promises to be a bright spot on the winter sales calendar, with some 282 mixed lots including: 95 tried racehorses, 57 yearlings, 22 weanlings, 2 stallions and 105 quality broodmares, highlighted by a dispersal of stock from Lucernevale Stud and a sizable reduction of broodmares and race fillies from Gooree Park Stud.
The Lucernevale Stud Dispersal comprises 13 weanlings, by sires such as Langfuhr (CAN), Zeditave and Covetous, in addition to 15 broodmares and one race filly.
Highlights among the Lucernevale mares include: Lot 93, Single Liner, dam of stakes-winner Top Comedian, served by Ashkalani (IRE); Lot 94, Roadstop, metropolitan winning sister to stakes-winner Condotti and three-quarter sister to Blue Diamond winner Road to Success, served by Zeditave; and Lot 99, Ancient Albatross, half-sister to stakes-winner Danajaya, served by Langfuhr (CAN); etc.
Buyers will have a unique opportunity to tap into some of Gooree Park Stud's most successful bloodlines, with 21 broodmares, four race fillies and one colt catalogued for sale.
The racehorse section includes classy stakes-winning sprinter Crete and stakes-placed Zodiac Star; also metropolitan winners Tara Express, She Sizzles, Gallant Pride, Boston, etc.
Bringing Joy, Lot 217, a smart winner at Randwick last Wednesday, is sure to command plenty of interest. The lightly raced three year old filly is by Danehill (USA) from the family of Rory's Jester and Ha Ha.
Ultra smart sprinter Grandiser, Lot 237, a brilliant winner of four races from seven starts is an interesting entry given his status as a two time bleeder. As such, he is banned from racing in Australia and will be looking for new owners with aspirations to race him in America.
Also included, a reduction of tried racehorses from Tarcoola Park Thoroughbreds.
