The 2001 International classifications have been released and results are as follows:

 

Two-year-old Colt Johannesburg  (Hennessy) 126
Two-year-old Filly Queen’s Logic  (Grand Lodge) 122
Three-year-old Colt Point Given          (Thunder Gulch) 130
Three-year-old Filly Banks Hill        (Danehill) 123

61. Hong Kong Update

21/01/2002

Former champion jockey turned trainer, Tony Cruz has taken the lead in the Hong Kong Trainer’s Ranking for the current season up to the race meeting on 12 January. From a total of 191 runners, Tony has 27 wins, two wins clear of David Hayes. Meanwhile John Size has moved to 9th in the Trainer’s ranking with 15 winners, 11 seconds, 14 thirds, 9 fourths and 7 fifths from only 76 runners.

 

D Whyte is still in the top position of the Jockey’s Ranking with 35 wins, 34 seconds, 23 thirds, 31 fourths and 21 fifths from 238 rides. Shane Dye is in third position with 23 wins, 22 seconds, 21 thirds, 19 fourths and 13 fifths from 224 rides. Dwayne Dunn is in 6th place with 18 winners and Steven King is in 9th position with 14 winners.

 

 

62. Jungle Pocket takes Japanese Horse of the Year Honours

The winner of the Group 1 Japan Cup, Jungle Pocket (Tony Bin-Dance Charmer) has been named Horse of the Year by the Japan Racing Association. Jungle Pocket was also named Champion Three-Year-Old. Other award winners include:

 

Champion Two-Year-Old Colt:  Admire Don (Timber Country-Vega)
Champion Two-Year-Old Filly:  Tamuro Cherry (Secreto-Miss Glory)
Champion Three-Year-Old Filly: T.M. Ocean (Dancing Brave-River Girl)
Champion Sprinter:  Trot Star (Damister-Carmancita)
Champion Dirt Horse: Kurofune (French Deputy-Blue Avenue)
Champion Mare:  To the Victory (Sunday Silence-Fairy Doll)
Champion Older Horse: Agnes Digital (Crafty Prospector-Chancey Squaw)
Champion Steeplechaser:  Gokai (Judge Angelucci-Yu Miroku)

 

  

63. Jade Robbery to Stand 2002 season in United Arab Emirates

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum’s Emirates Farm in the United Arab Emirates is to stand Jade Robbery for the 2002 Northern Hemisphere season. Jade Robbery has just finished his second southern hemisphere season at Widden Stud.

 

Jade Robbery follows fellow Shadai Stallion Station stallion, Timber Country who stood in the UAE last year. Jade Robbery retired to stud at Shadai has sired 232 winners from 457 starters. He has 11 Japanese stakes winners and 13 stakes-placed runners from his first seven crops.

 

 

64. Silvano – German Horse of the Year

Silvano, the winner of the 2001 Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup in Hong Kong and the Group 1 Arlington Million, has been named German Horse of the Year. A live TV poll by West German Television awarded the title to Silvano who received 50% of the votes.

 

Silvano will stand the 2002 season at Gestut Fahrhof at a fee of €7,500.

 

 

65. Keeneland’s January Horse of All Age Sale

The Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale saw an increase in the average and median prices and a decline in the number of horses passed-in.

 

The average was US$37,060, an increase of 13 percent from US$13,856 last year. The median increased 21 percent from US$10,500 in 2001 to US$12,750 this year. The pass-in rates fell from 28% to 18%. Gross sales totalled US$34,688,000 for 936 horses. Top price was US$3.6 million for Desert Stormer, a 12-year-old broodmare in foal to Kris S.

 

 

66. Zariz to stand at Riverdene Stud

21/01/2002

One of Australia’s leading open-class sprinters, Zariz (Mukaddamah(USA)-Divine Dash), will join the Riverdene Stud stallion roster for the 2002 breeding season after completing a limited number of engagements during the Autumn with the target being the Group 1 VRC Newmarket Handicap. Zariz is a multiple Group Two Winner having saluted in the AJC San Domenico Stakes and the AJC Up And Coming Stakes and has also been successful in the Group 3 BTC B.T.C. Sprint.

67. Vale – Yeats

21/01/2002

Yeats, the impeccably bred son of Nijinsky, has died at the age of 26 at Oaklands Stud in Queensland. Yeats began stud duties in 1980 at Woodlands Stud at a fee of $8,500 and after 21 seasons was retired from stud service in 2000-2001 after serving 18 mares, all of which went in foal. Up until the present time, Yeats has sired 441 winners from 722 starters for earnings of over $18.7 million. He has also sired 15 stakes winners and as a broodmare sire, daughters of Yeats have left 17 stakewinners.

 

 

68. Magic Millions has $1.1 million Sale Topper

21/01/2002

The Magic Millions Yearling Sale has concluded for another year with the sale topper recording $1.1 million. The yearling in question is a full brother to 1999 Golden Slipper winner Catbird (Danehill(USA)-Fitting) and was offered by Vinery Australia. Hereunder is a summary of the sale (Sessions 1-4):
