When Mission Sealed won at Happy Valley in Hong Kong recently, he emphasised what a tremendous job his sire Stylish Century has done at stud. Stylish Century has winners in six countries for progeny earnings of more than $5 million.
This bold, front running son of Double Century has always been one of the Queensland's best and most popular racehorses, right from when he ran an Australian record for 1200 metres in winning the Golden Nugget Stakes at the Gold Coast. Stylish Century went on to win over $2.5 million in stakes and was named the Co-champion Australian Three Year Old.
He defeated Dr Grace when he won the VRC Derby, (in record time) and was also successful in the Group 1 AJC Champion Stakes and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes. The great Rough Habit had to be content to finish second to him in the Listed BATC Doomben Classic, and he defeated Zabeel in the VATC Autumn Classic. In 58 starts in the best company, Stylish Century won 11 races and was placed 15 times. Stylish Century commenced stud duties in New Zealand in 1992, and returned to Australia in 1997.
He is now back in Queensland standing for Frank and Pauline Crick at Glamorganvale Lodge near Fernvale. While at stud in New Zealand this dark brown, almost black horse got some very capable horses, including Stakes Winners Buster Jones, who won the Group 3 VATC Sandown Stakes, Alberton Star and Golden Era.
His tough staying daughter Royal Sencheric finished second in the QTC Oaks, and now, at eight years, is still winning. She returned to form with a powerful performance over 2040 metres at Moonee Valley in August. Stylish Century, who carries a double cross of the immortal Star Kingdom, is the highest stake earner standing in Queensland this season. His winners to runners average stands at better than 62%.
