48. County's Death - A loss to Queensland

  13/01/2001

The Queensland breeding industry has lost a reliable sire with the death of County. One of the last of the sons of Vain at stud, County has been a prolific sire of speed horses since commencing stud duties in 1985.

County has been the premier sire at Murray and Sue Murdoch's Craigow Stud in recent years. He has returned a 64% winner to runners average, including Stakes Winners Show County, Flaming Hot, Hot As Hell and Volts.

His daughter Suzy Grey is one of the most exciting horses racing in Queensland at present. This filly went against the trend of "jump out and run" which was typical of so many of the progeny of Country. A back-marker, Suzy Grey has a devastating finish and can run sensational sectionals.

County came from a family renowned for producing both good sires and good broodmares. He was closely related Maizcay, Dieu D'Or, Mr Kwila and the Golden Slipper winner Catbird, who is widely tipped to be a sire sensation.

The death of County swings the spotlight at Craigow firmly on to Integra, who has transferred from New South Wales to Craigow Stud this year. Integra is well-known as the sire of the great horse Intergaze, who commenced stud duties at Widden Stud last year.

The multiple Group 1 winner Intergaze stands at a fee of $7,700. His sire, Integra is available at Craigow for $2,750. Intergaze is by Lunchtime, who is also the sire of the champion racehorse and sire Snippets. In addition to siring Intergaze, Integra is also the sire of Intergrate, a Group winner in New Zealand, and also winner of the BTC Labour Day Cup and second in the Doomben Cup.

Integra is currently represented by the top class filly Dolce Veloce, winner of the Group 3 Moet and Chandon Classic, and he also has a very promising mare in Interbank who showed promise of a good Spring campaign at the recent Newcastle carnival.
