In recording a powerhouse win in $100,000 Group Three Rubiton Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday (January12) the Mick Price trained Intelligent Star ran the fastest1100 metres ever registered on an Australian metropolitan track and at the same time indicated he could be a big threat in the leading Melbourne sprints scheduled for the next two months.
The five-year-old gelding covered the 1100 metres in new track record time of 1:01.86 and it was the first time1:02 had been broken for the distance on a city course.
Raced by Dato Tan Hock Chong, Intelligent Star was scoring his ninth win and third stakes success in fifteen career outings. His successes show again that it is not necessary to pay big service fees to breed a good winner.
A winner of a Group Three race in Adelaide and a second placegetter in the Sandown Guineas, his sire Picknicker, a son of the Lunchtime champion Snippets, stood the 2001 season on a fee of $2750 at Oakley Park Stud at Kotupna, Victoria.
The
half sister to Intelligent Star, by Encosta de lago will be offered by
Riverdale Stud at the 2002 Premier Sale. She is a half sister to former
top class stakes winning mare Blaze the Turf, from the quality producer
Aerate, who holds the perfect record of four to race all winners.
