Bocelli, Singapore’s champion racehorse has been disqualified as the winner of the Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Kranji last October after testing positive to tosalicylic acid. Bocelli’s trainer Paddy Busuttin was fined $2,000 by the Stewards who took his good record into account. Busuttin has the right of appeal. The placings in the Queen Elizabeth II Cup are now Saddle Up 1st, Smart Bet 2nd and Tapildo 3rd.
The winner of the Group 1 Japan Cup (Dirt), Kurofune, has been forced into premature retirement after suffering a tendon injury. Kurofune will retire to Shadai Stallion Station with his fee expected to be five million yen (AUD$80,000). The three-year-old entire broke the track record in the Japan Cup which he won most impressively by seven lengths.
