95. Happy New Year Super QRIS!

  04/02/2002

What a great start for the Queensland breeding industry and Super QRIS! Queensland's premier two year old event, the Magic Millions has been won in brilliant style by the Queensland-bred filly Lovely Jubly.

And to make the result even better, third place was claimed in a flying finish by Cool Trent, a very promising colt by the Queensland sire Nediym.

Lovely Jubly is a daughter of the first season sire Lion Hunter. The well-bred son of Danehill went to stud after a short racing career which returned him five wins and two placings from only eight starts. Speed was the essence of Lion Hunter's racing style. It reflects great credit on the horse that he was represented in this year's race by two runners from his first crop - Lovely Jubly and Bullala, both of which had won in Sydney before coming north for the Magic Millions.

The run of Cool Trent was full of merit. A Listed winner at his first start in Melbourne, Cool Trent is yet another very promising horse by Nediym, whose best performer, the brilliant General Nediym had his first yearlings through the Magic Millions ring this year.

Both two year olds are Super QRIS registered, and both look set to carry the Queensland bred flag proudly in feature events in the autumn and winter. Lovely Jubly is trained at Newcastle and Cool Trent in Melbourne, so the two will be looking at the big money races in Sydney and Melbourne. We wish them well.

96. Our Suzy in the Money Again

04/02/2002

The exciting mare Suzy Grey was keeping them honest in Melbourne last week. The mare with the Bernborough-like finish was coming off a Listed win in Adelaide when she contested the $70,000 Thoroughbred Breeders Victoria Plate at Moonee Valley.
The tight, turning Moonee Valley track did not give Suzy much opportunity to launch her devastating finish, but she charged home to finish a close third behind the classy mares Shaye Spice and Haste Ye Back.
Suzy Grey is by the consistent sire County, who died at the beginning of the stud season and will be greatly missed from the ranks of Queensland sires.

97. MM Classic

04/02/2002

The outcome of the MM Classic had a great bearing on the seasonal sires' statistics. The race was won cleverly by a somewhat underrated filly, Lovely Jubly, which drew immediate attention to her first-season sire - the brilliant Lion Hunter, son of Danehill.

It is very early days for the Juvenile sires' table but the domination by Queensland-based stallions is something of a revelation. January is the halfway mark of the 2001-2002 season.
Queensland-based stallions occupy four of the top six positions on the juvenile sires' ladder - Lion Hunter (1st), Clang (3rd), Breakfast Creek (5th) and Nediym (6th).

99. Stallion Movements

04/02/2002

Already we have news of new stallions secured to stand at stud in the 2002-breeding season. Glenlogan Park Stud recently announced they have secured triple Group One winner Show A Heart to stand at stud for the 2002 breeding season.

By the now deceased Brave Warrior who has proven to be the most tragic loss to the Queensland breeding and racing industries, Show A Heart was got from his sires first crop and is out of the twice Stakes Placed winner of 12 races Miss Sandman. His dam is a daughter of the Man O' War male, the sire Regal Advice and Misty Morn, a mare by the Ribot classic winner Boucher.

Glenlogan Park Stud have secured Show A Heart in agreement with the owners Ross and Judy Cutts, to race on in his current 4 year old season and syndicated for stallions duties in 2002.

All told Show A Heart has won or placed in 10 Black type races, having won the Group 1 VATC Caulfield Guineas, the Group 1 QTC T.J Smith Handicap, and the Group 1 VATC Toorak Handicap last month during the Spring Racing Carnival. Show A Heart was also a close second in the Group 1 VRC Newmarket Handicap, the Group 2 VRC Ascot Vale Stakes and the Group 2 BTC Carlton Cup.

Show A Heart was awarded Champion Super QRIS 2 year old last year and followed on in being awarded Champion Super QRIS 3 year old at the Queensland Racing Industry Awards conducted in August this year.

Further news to come to hand is that Willow Bend Studs shuttle stallion Victory Note (USA) is to stand the 2002 Northern Hemisphere breeding season in France. The move stands to reason as a son of leading European sire Fairy King, Victory Note won the Group 1 French 2,000 Guineas in race record time. The race has had a significant sire influence as past winners include current boom stallion Kingmambo, Coolmore Stud shuttle stallion Hector Protector, and proven breeding greats Irish River and Blushing Groom.

There is no doubt Victory Note will receive tremendous support from the French breeding public which should see great results in the hub of European breeding and racing. Victory Notes move to France will see him mix it with one of Australia's boom home grown breeding talents in Octagonal who also stands the Northern season in France.

100. Show a Heart for Stud Duties in Queensland

04/02/2002

Show A Heart, one of Queensland’s best racehorses, will stand at stud next year.

The gallant chestnut horse is a triple Group 1 winner, and will be available to broodmare owners at Glenlogan Park Stud at Beaudesert. The horse has been a Stakes Winner in the best company as a two, three and four year old, winning those prestigious Group 1 races- the T.J, Smith Stakes, the Caulfield Guineas and the Toorak Handicap in successive years.

Now a four year old, Show A Heart is an extremely versatile horse. In addition to proving himself a crack miler, he has also been placed in the the premier sprints, the VRC Newmarket and the Oakleigh Plate.

Queensland saultes the owners of Show A Heart, Ross and Judy Cutts, who have shown their support for the Queensland industry by standing the son of Brave Warrior in their home state.

More on the pedigree of Show A Heart next week.
