146. TBNSW Weekend Racing News

It was a fantastic weekend of racing for TBNSW members who recorded two Group 1 wins (Barkada and Dash for Cash), a Group 2 win (Lonhro) and 2 Listed Race wins (Yell and Border Time).

In Sydney 16/02/2002

We returned to Royal Randwick (and the course proper) for an eight event card in Sydney on Saturday, with the highlights being the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes and the Group 2 Apollo Stakes. It was a great day for TBNSW members who recorded 4 winners (including a Group 2 event) and 4 third placings.

It was a third placing for TBNSW members in Race 1 the Qantas Matt Burke Handicap. Honey Ryder (Hector Protector(USA)-Special Licence) was successful from Whistle Dixie(NZ))(Star Way(GB)-Proteaceae) with Seesaw (Sea Swell-Rectify) bred by Eclipse Stud in third position.

It was third again for TBNSW members in Race 2 the Qantas Chris Whitaker Handicap when Fleecing (Anabba(USA)-Stealing) won from Dudley Do Right (Integra-Princess Dudley) with Pennywort (Grand Lodge(USA)-Penny) bred by Woodlands Stud in third place.

TBNSW members were back in the winner’s circle in Race 3 the Qantas Nathan Grey Handicap. Emerging Star (Anabaa(USA)-Arising) bred by Kirkby Investments Pty Limited saluted from Lavishly (Sunday Silence(USA)-Lunaliona) with Chatelaine (Flying Spur-Midnight Renegade) third.

Race 4 on the program was the Qantas Airways Wiggle Quality a listed race over 1400 metres. Youhadyourwarning(USA)(Warning(GB)-Youm Jadeed) scored from Veloce (Pprego(IRE)-Raise a Gallop) with Card Queen (Final Card-Eye that Lady) third.

One of the highlights of the day was Race 5 the Cabra-Vale Diggers Hobartville Stakes a Group 2 event for three-year-olds and TBNSW members were again in the winner’s circle when crowd favourite, Lonhro was victorious. Lonhro (Octagonal(NZ)-Shadea(NZ)) bred by Woodlands Stud was too strong for Athens(NZ)(The Jogger(USA)-Te Kowhia(NZ)) with Moonflute (Danehill(USA)-Her Mink Coat(USA)) in third position.

The other highlight of the program was Race 6 the Quasar Constructions Apollo Stakes a Group 2 event over 1400 metres and TBNSW members recorded a third placing with the very popular Tie The Knot. The race was won by Ha Ha (Danehill(USA)-Very Droll) who scored most impressively from El Mirada (El Moxie(USA)-Gayle’s Glance) with Tie The Knot (Nassipour(USA)-Whisked) bred by Mr O P Tait and Mrs S S Nivison flashing home to finish in third position.

TBNSW members were back in the winner’s circle in Race 7 the Qantas Phil Waugh Welter Handicap when Cheverny was successful. Cheverny (Grand Lodge(USA)-Vionnet) bred by Mr O P Tait and Mrs S S Nivison scored from Harp of Tara (Song of Tara(IRE)-French Encounter) with Bracing Rhythm (Barathea(IRE)-Rhythm Kingdom) in third place.

TBNSW members finished the day with a winner and a third placing in Race 8 the Qantas Holidays Handicap. Glenn (Grand Lodge(USA)-Carshalton) bred by Woodlands Stud was successful from King of Rhythm(NZ)(Rhythm(USA)-Lyphard’s Reve) with Simmysue (Simonstad(NZ)-Miss Pine Lodge) bred by Dr J D Woolridge in third position.


In Melbourne 16.02.02

Caulfield was the venue for an eight event card on Saturday with the highlight of the meeting being the Group 1 C F Orr Stakes.. TBNSW members recorded 3 winners (including a Group 1 win and a Listed Race win), 2 second placings and a third placing on the day.

It was second and third placings for TBNSW members in Race 1 the Hyderabad Race Club Handicap when Blue Marwina (Marwina-Aurora Blue) won from La Zoffany (Zoffany(USA)-Sharp in Slippery) bred by Mr C D and Mrs J J Ellis with Change of Control (Marauding(NZ)-Majestic Dawn) bred by Milburn Creek Thoroughbreds in third place.

TBNSW members were in the winner’s circle in Race 2 the Veuve Clicquot Stakes a listed race for two-year-olds over 1100 metres when Yell saluted. Yell (Anabaa(USA)-Vocalist) bred by Woodlands Stud was too good for Innovation Girl (Rubiton-Bright Gleam) with Oronoko (Umatilla(NZ)-Sandbagger) third.

A second placing for TBNSW members in Race 4 the Sandown Park(UK) Stakes a listed race over 1200 metres for three-year-old fillies. Fair Embrace (Strategic-Janelle Again(NZ)) was successful from Firm (Night Shift(USA)-Steadfast) bred by Woodlands Stud with Li Lo Lill (Umatilla(NZ)-Faricca) in third position.

Race 5 on the program was the Group 2 Carlton Draught Carlyon Cup. Pipe Star (Kaapstad(NZ)-Te Akau Star) won from The Secondmortgage(NZ) (Housebuster(USA)-Barbut Delcia(NZ)) with It’s Platonic(NZ)(Trustful-Mikis(NZ)) third.

The highlight of the day was the Group 1 C F Orr Stakes run over 1400 metres and it was great result for TBNSW members who provided the winner. Barkada (Spectrum(IRE)-Biscotte) bred by Vinery Australia was too strong for Northerly (Serheed(USA)-North Bell) with Cent Home(NZ)(Lord Ballina-Centuria(NZ)) in third place.

Race 7 on the program was the JRA Stakes a Listed Race over 1100 metres. Prince Rubiton (Rubiton-My Muse) scored from El Diablo (El Moxie(USA)-Movie Symbol) with Aragonce (Lake Coniston(IRE)-Aragon Queen) third.

TBNSW members finished the day with the winner in Race 8 the Wellington Racing Club Handicap when Zonked was first past the post. Zonked (Zeditave-Red Coronet) bred by Mr R J Kelly won from Quivira (Dieu D’Or-Queen of Kansas) with Circumnavigating (Encosta De Lago-Dream’s Delight) third.


Melbourne 17.02.02

Flemington was the venue for Sunday racing in Melbourne with the highlight of the meeting being the Group 1 Cadbury Guineas for three-year-olds with TBNSW members providing the quinella. TBNSW members had a great day recording 4 winners and a second placing.

TBNSW members opened their account with a winner in Race 2 the Piping Lane Handicap when Ottoman saluted. Ottoman (Grand Lodge(USA)-Cushti) bred by Woodlands Stud won from Soldado (Military Oplume(NZ)-Siloel(CAN)) with Varsilayos (Regal Classic(CAN)-Pentaya) in third position.

The highlight of the meeting was the Group 1 Cadbury Guineas a 1600 metre event for three-year-olds and TBNSW members provided the quinella. Dash for Cash (Secret Savings(USA)-Gulistan) bred by Emirates Park Pty Limited was successful from Royal Code (Kings Theatre(IRE)-Crytomagic(USA)) bred by Mr L J Fleming with Ustinov (Seeking the Gold(USA)-Let’s Elope(NZ)) in third place.

Another winner for TBNSW members in Race 7 the Flemington Grandstand Handicap when Adolescence scored. Adolescence (Grand Lodge(USA)-Mademoiselle) bred by Woodlands Stud was too good for Ruthless Tycoon (Monde Bleu (GB)-Fleeting Miss) with Spirit of Westbury(NZ)(Sir Tristram(IRE)-Lucky Witch) third.

TBNSW members had yet another winner in Race 8 the Gala Supreme Handicap. Dinmont (Grand Lodge(USA)-Ochiltwig) bred by Woodlands Stud won from Stravana(NZ)(Straussbrook-Avana(NZ)) with Supreme Heights (Zabeel(NZ)-Holly Hunter(NZ)) in third position.


In Brisbane 16/02/2002

Eagle Farm was the venue for an 8 event program in Queensland on Saturday. TBNSW members recorded 1 winner, 2 second placings and 4 third placings on the day.

TBNSW members opened their account with a third placing in Race 1 the Tattersalls Wine Club Handicap when Mister Omega (Forging Ahead(IRE)-Alpha’s Girl won from Yogi’s Edition (Post Elect-Ashes Edition) with Eminent Cheval (Mukaddamah(USA)-Pyranee) bred by Mr Gerry Harvey in third place.

It was second and third placings for TBNSW members in Race 4 the Express Post Flying. Elite Ted (Lord Ted-Femme Elite) was successful from The Wreck (Rechabite-Cupid’s Pride) bred by Red Star Thoroughbreds with Bagpipes (Palace Music(USA)-Rhythm Section) bred by Woodlands Stud in third position.

It was a third placing for TBNSW members in Race 6 the Carlton Draught Country Cup. Mookatan (Mookta-Khairatan(NZ)) scored from Coolawin (Catrail(USA)-Fare Tender(USA)) with Magico (Chimes Square-Magic Zephyr) bred by Mr A Brunskill third.

Second and third again for TBNSW members in Race 7 the AMP Interactive Centre Cup. Hirschberg (Sea Road-The Tart(NZ)) won from Meringo Mull (Mr Henrysee(USA)-Mull) bred by Meringo Stud Farm with Stormy Lodge (Our Maizcay-Storm Goddess) bred by Mr L J Fleming in third place.

It was back to the winner’s circle for TBNSW members in Race 8 the Hamilton Hotel Handicap when Foscat saluted. Foscat (Catrail(USA)-Foster’s Express) bred by Emirates Park Pty Limited was too good for Millennium Belle (Sir Laurence(NZ)-Mega Belle) with Flower Gem (Celestial Dancer(IRE)-Flowerland) third.


In Adelaide 16/02/2002

Cheltenham Park was the venue for black type racing in Adelaide on Saturday.

TBNSW members were in the winner’s circle in the C S Hayes Memorial Cup a listed race over 1450 metres when Border Time saluted. Border Time (Switch In Time(IRE)-La Busette) bred by Stratheden Stud was too good for the dead-heaters Real Time(NZ)(Desert Sun(GB)-Desert Strike(NZ)) and Exalted Lad (Blevic-Alleged Lady).

The Swettenham Stud Stakes was a Group 2 event for fillies and mares over 1250 metres. Suzy Grey (County-Suzynda) was successful from Regal Kiss (Royal Academy(USA)-Kiss a Halo) with Lady Belvedere (Royal Academy(USA)-So Stunning) in third position.
